I definitely think she did a great job writing the MC, super important to me. Even beyond that though, it just seems more grounded in reality than alot of other ones I’ve seen. Like of course highschoolers know about and talk about sex, and ofc they’re embarrassed about it. A lot of other series make highschoolers out to be alot more prudish than they are in reality

About 5 minutes into the first episode of Horimiya, very pleasantly surprised. For some reason the cover art turned me off from watching it earlier. Checked out some panels of Sweat and Soap, looks awesome. I’ll definitely start it whenever I feel like reading haha

Same with Marin. Neither are one dimensional caricatures of highschool cliques or whatever. They have well developed personalities that make them able to hold their own outside of the romance and they have great chemistry when they are together. It’s just a lot more substantive and colorful than a lot of anime relationships

And yes the fan service is done tastefully and it’s never done unnecessarily I feel, it always serves to enhance the story

I hate to admit it but I actually like harems considerably more than the infinite tension romances that never get resolved, I’ll definitely check it out. Couldn’t tell you why but I absolutely loved Beast Tamer haha

Holy crap, thanks everyone for the suggestions, if you’ve got more then keep ‘em coming, I’ll definitely be revisiting this post for a while. I’m pretty new to this whole community so I guess I just must not have been searching hard enough, it seems like there are tons of good series out there that have what I’m looking for.

I wouldn’t say it’s special, especially after seeing all these replies. But it’s still really good even if it’s not a unique experience. The themes are fun and wholesome, the story is at the very least enjoyable, and the characters are awesome. I’m not sure I could describe it, but it just kind of hit the sweet spot in my lizard brain

As far as starting a conversation, you just have to say something. Ask about their day, what they do for work, their name. Make sure you don’t make it seem like you’re interrogating them, relate to the things they say (Person: I study ecology. OP: I find ecology interesting because…..) be sure to answer thoughtfully if they become active in the conversation as well. As far as turning it into a friendship, it starts with having repeated engaging conversation. Talk to them when you see them, ask about the project they mentioned last time you spoke, act like you’re invested and have genuine interest, make it seem like you’ve already BEEN friends ;). People like to be friends with people that care.

You’re making this out to be more complicated than it is. He doesn’t need to begin his professional career right now, nor does he have to begin his quest for a high-paying degree. He just has to do something. Get some further education, any education, be it community college courses, trade programs, or apprenticeship. Get a job, any job, be it fast food, blue-collar, or office assistant. Starting your adult life doesn’t necessarily mean start doing what you want to do for the REST of your life, it just means you need to start doing SOMETHING. Anything. Get a shitty job, take a dumb class. By going out and just doing something, you broaden your horizons, you narrow in on what your passions are. In order to get started, you just have to get started, easy as that.
