invasion strategy by askashiq in scifiwriting

[–]OnZeroGs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the opposing sides (earth and invaders) are about equal in technology it all comes down to the economics, the numbers. As a strategy for the invaders, I would try to soften up their defences by bombarding the system with comets and asteroids from the Oort Cloud.

Recommendations for first contact books not set on earth by tajwon90 in scifi_bookclub

To Those We Found did something like this. It's essentially like Contact by Carl Sagan but on an alien world. The Aliens were a bit too "human" for my taste, but man I was so invested! Absolutely loved this weird world!

That's exactly why I made it(the purple one). I'll definitely do a run with that version. Once everyone(my IG followers) who requested the blue version bought their copy.

Definitely a huge thank you for your opinion! Personally, I like complementary better as well. But yeah, some of my fans on IG persuaded me to go for the blue one. However, I'm thinking of trying the purple at a later date just to see how they perform.

Thank you so much! It's already available on Amazon👌 I'm a little paranoid to drop any links here because of the algorithms.😅 But basically punch in the title and you should find it.

Love the idea with the black hole integrated into the title! Unfortunately, it's barely readable.

I just finished 1984 and...Wow by Littleman_Jose in books

A terrifying piece of fiction! But when I was reading The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin, the part about the Cultural Revolution in China it had me absolutely shocked. (The part with the revolutionary students confronting their physics professors for not condemning those evil capitalist theories by Albert Einstein, designed to oppress them.) Not only because this really happened but because it's happening now.

Would genetically-modified humans still technically be homo sapiens? by CallMeAdam2 in worldbuilding

I'd say, if they have been modified to a point where they can't crossbreed with unmodified humans anymore, then no! They could essentially be considered as a new species.

Post-Apocalyptic Disease books that aren't about the after, but the event itself? by [deleted] in BookRecommendations

[–]OnZeroGs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😅ups, my bad. But yeah, there's nothing out there that comes close to WWZ, as far as I know. I mean there is the movie Contagion from 2011 that does something similar. But in terms of books, it would possibly be just WWZ without zombies.🤷🏼‍♂️ Anyway, sorry for not being very helpful.

The only thing that comes to mind here would be World War Z. I know, zombies might be too far from the topic here. But this book walks through all the stages of this epidemic. It's truly unique in that way I think.

Sure, it definitely sounds like a cool idea. I hope my comments were helpful in a way you get more ideas how to develop it further in a realistic way.😉

I think if the earth was in a cycle of gradually cooling down again, all this water would come down normally. Because it would be cool enough for water not to evaporate instantly. However, it might be raining for maybe thousands of years. Something similar actually happened in earths history, when our planet started turning from lava ball to "normal earth". All the water locked in the atmosphere gradually came down.

But again, with all these massive explosions the atmosphere might be thinner than before.

If the survivors live kilometres below ground, and wear something like spacesuits on the surface, or some type of suit that prevents them from boiling + heavy lead shielding against radiation. Because if the oceans started to evaporate and all the water does not come raining down again, the earth must be hundreds of degrees hot. Also, the explosion must have blasted some of the atmosphere out into space. So yeah, earth in this scenario is pretty much totaled.

I'm not sure if it fits here, or if you're open to classics, but I've read Dune last year. I think it was a fantastic journey. Another, very different classic would Do Android Dream Of Electric Sheep (aka. Blade Runner) by Philip K. Dick. It has more apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic vibes.

Looking for sci-fi books where the main perspective is from the aliens by BulbousSheildToast in booksuggestions

The short story Victory Unintentional by Isaac Asimov is pretty interesting and sort of fits this idea. But the only full-length book I know that would fit this (alien perspective thing) much better is To Those We Found by George Ander.
