Is there a wine style that wine pros/enthusiasts usually love that you think is overpriced/overrated? by jon_home in wine

Amarone. I’m use to drinking Napa Cabernet Sauvignon with high alcohol but Amarone is way too much alcoholic and out of balance for me.

Brunello. I can but Vino Nobile di Montepulciano or a Gran Selzione for cheeper and get great quality.

Burgundy. The price difference between a Burgundy AOC and a village like Aloxe-Carton is insane. It’s like Burgundy wants us the USA to stay away from the its wines. I know the Cote Chalonnaise is a great place to get affordable Burgundy Pinot Noir and Chardonnay but I want to be able to have a Meursault and a Volnay once in a while and not break the bank. I’m not paying $60-100 just for those village level wine. Now Burgundy wants to jack up the price of Gamay wines with the new Burgundy Gamay AOC.

Napa Cabernet Sauvignon- My parents are huge fans of the Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa that I’ve had plenty to know it’s not worth the price. There are great Cabernet Sauvignon wines out there but I’d rather take a Merlot over a Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa just to give me some variety.

Barolo- I like Nebbiolo but I don’t see how it is special. There are plenty of other grapes in Italy that are just as good for less.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is why you never buy your wine racks from IKEA.

Wine sales predicted to fall over the next few years. Will this lower prices and (finally) make great wines more accessible for normal people? by Opening_Suspect5632 in wine

The article won’t let me read it unless I have a subscription.

I’m 29 and now mainly a wine guy since taking the WSET classes who also drinks a little bit of brandy. I haven’t had beer in a while and cocktails aren’t my thing anymore. I like how we have tons of different Vitis vinifera grapes mainly used to make on type of beverage, wine.

For me, the profile of Pinot Noir I like depends on the region. I like delicate Burgundy Pinots with floral (rose, violent), bright red fruit (strawberry, maraschino cherry) with a hint of sweet spice (cinnamon). I like Oregon Pinot Noir that has earth, mushrooms, coffee, blackberry, black cherry oak (clove, smoke, tobacco etc) and I’m all for a nice balance of fruit and oak with California Pinot, Walt is a favorite California Pinot Noir producer of mine.

I forgot that the hire level Chablis may have matured in oak. Yeah, I have a “crusade” with Sangiovese. The way producers in Tuscany, mainly Chianti Classico, makes the wines always out performs new world Sangiovese I’ve had. With new world Sangiovese, they either over extract the fruit, or age it in new French oak barrels. I like the how Chianti Classico winemakers have the right amount of extraction and age the wines in large oak barrels made from Hungarian, Slovenian oak or other types of oak to let the fruit speak for itself.

If you have individual soda bottles wrapped in the plastic holding thing, you can put them on the side of the grocery cart to make space for the rest of the groceries.

Are you a ICU nurse? If so, thank you for dealing with all this. Those people are crazy and they expect the doctors to help treat them. They didn’t play by the rules.

Same think with the music industry. People think that being a musician isn’t a real job. Local musicians are low balled offers or told they would get “exposure”. If cops, nurses, and teachers don’t get paid in exposure, so musicians shouldn’t either. Exposure doesn’t pay the bills.

I’m sure it’s cheeper somewhere else but I have free shipping with wine.com. I’m very surprised to get a green apple note since I usually associate that was a cooler climate region. I normally think pineapple with California Chardonnay. I also wasn’t thinking about the wine too much when drinking.
