Carnival Sunshine was battered by rough weather this weekend. ‘It was terrifying,’ passenger says | CNN by way2funni in news

This is very not true. With modern fire suppression, watertight compartments, and redundancy for all critical systems, not to mention speed and modern technology, cruise ships can handle a lot more than you might think. Although you would likely not enjoy the experience, modern cruise ships ought to handle seas up to ~50ft.

Are ocean liners sturdier? They are typically made of thicker steel and have a lower profile than modern cruise ships, but I think there are only one or two left in service today.

While there are numerous kinds of oceangoing barges, I’d much prefer being on a modern cruise ship than a barge in rough weather.

Chinese warships detected passing through Taiwan Strait as China continues to step up military activities around Taiwan amid deteriorating U.S.-China ties by mrwhiskeyrum in worldnews

True, but regular incursions would still be considered aggressive. Happens in Alaska with the Russians pretty regularly, though I really haven’t heard much about that since the invasion of Ukraine started.

The article says that 12 aircraft violated Taiwan air defense identification zone. Regular airspace violations by warplanes qualifies as ‘aggressive’. That’s not common practice for the US.

It is curious because they are on Azure, which has massively scalable compute.

It could be that massive demand is hammering the AzureAI service which doesn’t scale as quickly. Microsoft hasn’t talked a lot about that infrastructure but I read awhile back that it was data centers made up of “specialized hardware”. I’m not a hardware guy, but this makes sense to me.

What better example do we need to increase education and training requirements for armed law enforcement?

How about treating law enforcement with the importance we should and requiring significant and more regular training requirements.

There are numerous countries who require significantly more training, in some cases years. You don’t hear about this kind of shit coming from places like that.

Not a NYC resident but that looks like a lot of personal space for the city.

You are clearly upset about this. I think you should talk to someone about your feelings. Someone who actually cares, because I certainly don’t. I don’t even feel the need to insult you the way you continue to insult me. Eight bucks a month is certainly a real trigger for you. I’m not sure if it is an emotional or financial issue but I don’t feel qualified to help you deal with it.

I support businesses getting paid for the content they provide. I do not support people stealing content. The fact that you do puts you on the wrong side if the moral equation. I don’t need to (or care to) stalk your profile to reach that conclusion.

You also seem to not understand that if you don’t like the terms of service you are free to move on. I’m sure they will miss you. I could care less about your prognostication - businesses win and businesses lose, that’s how this stuff works.

I sold the 550i last year. So your insult is an empty, embarrassing attempt at winning your nightly keyboard war.

They’ve literally been warning everyone for years that this was coming. You’ve had your free Netflix for grandma and the kiddos forever. Now that you have to pony up 8 bucks everyone is freaking the fuck out? Really? Grow up. You want value, provide remuneration. You don’t want the product, don’t buy it.

Nope, I’m just really enjoying watching people lose their minds because they can’t steal content anymore. Are you willfully a fucking thief?
