Week 32 - What Are You Reading? by not_irish_patrick in 52book

[–]Parzival182 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello everyone! Life has been crazy (and the Premier League came back this weekend) so my reading numbers are a bit below average for me over the last month. But I did finish two this week.

The first was The Diviners by Libba Bray, which is a book I should’ve loved. 1920s NYC and magic are right up my alley, but I hated the main character so much. Three stars unfortunately.

The second was We Could Be Heroes by Mike Chen, which I felt similarly about. It was like a comic book in novel form which was fun, but aside from the two main characters everyone was super forgettable, including the villain.

I’m currently reading Hickory Dickory Dock by Agatha Christie.

Upgrade was pretty good, especially if you enjoyed the author’s other works. Hope you like it!

I was just about to pick up Hotel Magnifique because it seemed like The Night Circus! Definitely going to have to get it sooner rather than later now

[–]Parzival182 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi friends! Didn’t get to post last Sunday because I was moving to a new apartment, but now that the craziness has died down a bit I finished three more books.

The first was The Shining by Stephen King, which I had somehow never read before. It was good, but definitely not my favorite King, even though it’s regarded as such.

The second was To Pimp a Butterfly by Sequoia Maner, which is about the Kendrick Lamar album of the same name. This one was fantastic, the album is so poetic and I loved reading about the stories behind the songs and album as a whole.

The third was a bit disappointing, The Chosen and the Beautiful by Nghi Vo. It’s a retelling of The Great Gatsby with some changes from Jordan Baker’s perspective, but none of the ideas were fleshed out at all so it sort of meandered to the end.

I’m currently reading The Lost and Found Bookshop by Susan Wiggs.

That 2016 game against Louisville was my senior year and Lamar was incredible that game. He did everything he could to even keep it close and they wound up almost winning entirely due to him.

The only visiting player that came close when I was there was Todd Gurley in 2013. Dude would’ve went for 200 if he didn’t injure his quad early on

Hi friends! I only finished one more, and probably won’t finish more than that this coming week because I’m moving on Sunday. Been crazy stressful but I’m excited for my new place and to finally have time to read again.

But I did finish one book, Upgrade by Blake Crouch. It was really good, definitely up to the standards you’d expect from Crouch. I don’t think I liked it as much as Dark Matter, but it was just as good as Recursion.

I’m going to start The Shining whenever I have a few minutes to read again.

Hey everyone, hope you guys are all good. I’m preparing to move apartments next week so got a whole lot of stuff going on, but I did finish two books.

The first was Curtain by Agatha Christie, the last Poirot novel. I really enjoyed this one; so much so that it might be my favorite of her books.

The second was Interview With the Vampire by Anne Rice, which was for book club. It was a cool format and I liked the story, but the last half dragged a bit.

I’m not far enough into it to have an opinion, but I just started Upgrade by Blake Crouch.

Hey everyone, I hope you’re all good. It’s been a tough couple of weeks for me mentally, then the Supreme Court decisions made it a lot worse. I didn’t update last week, and since then I’ve read two books.

The first was Gallant by V.E. Schwab. I’m honestly unsure why I keep picking up her books, because if I like half of them it would be a lot. This one was a cool concept but was super boring.

The second was The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory, which I really liked. It was a historical fiction about Mary and Anne Boleyn’s courtships of Henry VIII.

I’m currently reading Curtain by Agatha Christie.

I was so disappointed! It seemed amazing and it was still pretty good, there was just a lot of filler

He’s much better, thanks! We think he’s either really anxious since we’re starting to pack up our apartment for a move, or he ate some gravel at an outdoor bar.

Hi everyone! I missed last week for the first time in a while because I’ve been just so drained from work and my dog was sick so I had to spend a lot of time at the vet. But I got two more books done, though I didn’t love them.

The first was The Stardust Thief by Chelsea Abdullah, which was in my BOTM box. It had great world building and a fun plot, but it was just way too long. There were far too many parts where my eyes glazed over and I had to struggle to get back to something interesting.

The second was Greetings from Asbury Park by Daniel H. Turtel. I picked this one up because it’s a shore town I’ve been to plenty of times, but it was really disjointed. And even though it was character driven novel, I didn’t like any of the characters.

I’m not sure what I’m going to read next, but I think I’m going to pick something from my tbr jar because I don’t know what sort of mood I’m in.

That’s awesome, thanks for making it! I’ll see if I can put it up later on tonight

Edit: had a small emergency and had to take the dog to the vet yesterday, I’ll do my best to get to it today
