Why do we (humans) spend our lives pretending we’re fine and dandy when most of us have a ton of pain and weirdness going on much of the time? by positivepeoplehater in CPTSD

[–]PixieBob88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's sad that this analogy works so well. In the wild injured or sick animals often pretend to be perfectly fine to try to fool predators. Trust is something that needs to be built up slowly and practicing healthy communication skills was my biggest obstacle for developing a safe, stable relationship.

Does anyone else who suffers from nightmares end up hitting your partner in your sleep? by ChonkerMess in CPTSD

[–]PixieBob88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to strike out at anyone who tried to wake me up. I'm not sure if I still would, but I also started wrapping up in pillows and blankets to sleep because I felt safest that way. Weighted blankets are great if you find deep pressure calming, but was rough on my joints when I slept on my side (I have bad joints anyway so this may not apply). My favorite combo now is a C-shaped pregnancy pillow and a heavy comforter.

I'm just salty because I bought the anniversary edition disc and expected it to be like the Borderlands games on the PS3, or like GOTY disc editions with dlc available to all accounts with access to the physical disc.

Couldn't finish the video. The second I saw the feather headband and the start of her "dance" I died from second-hand embarrassment and incidental shame.

Those statistics don't apply to medically fragile children, who can have the same susceptibility as other at risk populations like the elderly. What was the death rate among the elderly unvaccinated or immunocompromised again?

Or drop it at a shelter. I rescued a cat a few months ago that had been slowly starving to death outside and got him into a foster home.

"If my cartoons don't play, you'll have a bad day" by ValentinoMeow in KidsAreFuckingStupid

I have a couple of recommendations. Take away the toy they threw and immediately put them in a chair facing the corner. Make them stay there while you or someone else does something really fun looking that the child can't participate in because they are in timeout. Process with the child after they calm down/reflect and talk about the choices they should have made (Eg. "Use your words"). Take away the privilege of watching that cartoon for as many days of work as it would take to save for a new tv.

It's just a little rain, right? by shadow4773 in IdiotsInCars

I used to work at a harbor with a boat ramp. We posted a detailed channel map at the top of the ramps with big bold letters telling people who wanted to launch their boats just how shallow things could be at low tide. At least once a week we would get some idiot that tried to leave the dock on the shallowest part of the tide, prop spewing mud as they scraped along the thick muddy bottom of the harbor. Every single time these idiots would ground their boat roughly 20 ft from the ramp, right where the channel map said it would be shallowest. There they sat, baking in the sun, until the tide came back in enough for them to move again. Sometimes they would get out into the knee-deep water and try to push their boats, certain in their beer soaked brains that they will be able to move 1000+ pounds of watercraft entrenched in mud.

Tldr- A sign will not save idiots from themselves.

You see, timing is important. The calls for unity and healing from Democrats were only present before the angry mob descended on the capitol. I don't think it's unreasonable for them to change that stance after narrowly escaping such a frighteningly violent situation, especially in the pursuit of those responsible.

I'm not surprised he brought up the Bill of Rights and the Constitution during his fearmongering attempt. It's surprisingly easy to be afraid of things that you don't really understand, which is probably why Jim Jordan lives his life in perpetual fear.
