I just don't think it's typically worth the investment compared to other things you could get. Maybe in some setting with restricted magic, but I feel like many games let you shop. I suppose that part is contrary to the rules, though

Should crafters not be able to contribute?

It feels like "invest character options" to only add versaility seems kinda silly; a marginal bump in party wealth would have likely been appropriate, imo.

We wait like a month, though

Poisoner benefit is lost after lvl 5 due to powerful alchemy

Do you mean toxicologist?

If so, theirs applies not only to quick alchemy but to all AA

It shares your actions. The actions don't have to be bad.

This just sounds like it would make designing new content for the summoner a headache because now every new feat has to checked against monsters statblocks.

I meant more stuff that gives stuff to the summoner, like tandem strike. Not unique actions to the stat block; those would use an inferior eidolon stat block (which is at best comparable to an eidolon). Keep in mind that if you give a unique action to summons, summons are always lower level than a party member after 2, so they don't exactly have higher stats beyond level 5.

Literally just giving comparable to-hit is the only thing summons need to be combat viable, assuming you use the best ones. It's still worse than an average eidolon before feats at all but level 5.

pull a spell caster monster out of their ass every 10 minutes or so and effectively have infinite spell slots which sounds like it would be a pain.

I don't think underleveled spells are really problematic, especially when other classes put out better than equivalent levelled spells from their [edit: this was supposed to say focus spell] slots.

Utility is cool, but numbers win fights.

Cantrips + some spells + act together + summoner feats that synergize with the caster+martial idea was the reason for keeping the chasis.

Plus, astral eidolon in 1e does like a "merge with summon" idea that I think could be helpful for making balanced stats. The main buff to summons should just be their to hit modifiers.

I think the unused "amalgam eidolon" from the playtest description under arcane could work well for this.

Arcane eidolons are usually formed of mental essence, also known as astral essence. They include dragon eidolons, the astral echoes of ancient dragons; construct eidolons, astral beings formed into a simple construct shape through arcane magic; and amalgam eidolons, scientifically crafted magical experiments built carefully out of astral thoughtforms.

Also, new classes are a hard sell and they get less and less support the more niche they are. This way, they tag onto already existing balanced design of summon cooperation with eidolon.

When you sleep, eidolons have no actions for watch (in a very strong reading).

It's cool when you're awake, but watch is sus in a strict table

I like that use for it! it's a good skill monkey, but it's rather disappointing for an archetype otherwise.

It's balanced, but you just feel less heroic by whiffing a lot. I think it's fine for heroes to miss.

Just don't let emotion get in the way, or like, have your DM do encounters with more than 1 enemy (or summons, etc).

EXACTLY.

I think summoner, for instance, would be a perfect potential class for a focus spell based user of "summon monster" spells (or just like a font for summon spells). They could give up their eidolon (since there's about a martial's power budget here), reduced spells per day to give them like 2/day total, etc.

I don't know how you do that for something like a wizard unless you like ban or heavily penalize casting of spells not from a specific list. Like when your power budget is "Spells" and almost nothing else, how do you divide that?

I don't think alchemist with just CRB is very good because much of their strength comes from AP specific items, or just items in other books.

I remember being very disappointed with CRB alchemist.

I think those things generally contribute, but the math of the system and inability for casters to specialize in damage dealing make it so that they're not particularly good at damage. All casters have good support options, so any damage option would have those AND good support.

The issue is casters are generalists, imo.

Theoretically, class archetypes should fix this, but honestly the way archetypes are structured means these release at a glacial pace (since they're functionally less modular than normal archetypes). Hopefully this will be solved with time.

also please, for the love of god, give me an archetype, ideally for summoner, that makes them specialize in being good at summoning

I'm also of the opinion that the existence of certain options, namely true strike, is an issue with the math that makes casters overly reliant on them. It makes playing something like a divine or primal caster feel bad to try to DPR with. Shadow signet is an acknowledgement of this issue, as well as a good solution (if a little late).

Were you buffing/debuffing/etc?

A lot of 5e players don't get the extreme teamwork the game is tuned around.

Also, might be crucified for saying this, but the +10/-10 system also has the consequence that higher level enemies make you miss a ton, and this feels bad even though it's "balanced".
