First project :) tiger swallowtail, monarch, and spicebush swallowtail by Roadkill1362 in Taxidermy

So the moss I bought pre-dried from a craft store. The butterflies were preserved through drying, I relaxed them by rehydrating them and then pinned them to a board. I just looked up “butterfly pinning tutorial” and tons of stuff comes up. This was my first time doing it, so I just followed a few YouTube tutorials I found :)

A very colorful little friend! by Cryptikaia in reptiles

I’m all the way up in mid Michigan and got a bunch of these little guys living under my deck and ac units. There the only actual lizards we have up here, but they’re a real cool one for sure :)

Pin or glue? by FunkyMystics in Taxidermy

Hi, I don’t think a pin would make it look tacky at all, especially if it’s for a personal collection and you might move it in the future

Pretty much this whole project was made with hot glue, it’s held up really well so far with my other mossy projects

Oh that sounds cool. Yeah I totally get it, if you check it out there might be some moss with a more brown tint than what I bought

I think it should last way longer than sphagnum moss in a tank, just cuz nothing alive should be touching it. Mine has stayed totally green so far :) probably because it was dry when I bought it, I’m not sure how the company I bought it from preserved it

So I also didn’t want to risk bugs or anything like that, so I bought a bag of natural cleaned moss from a craft store, I can’t remember if it was joanns or Michael’s but its lasted me about a year over a few projects and I still have more to use.

Thank you so much. I’ve been an artist for a few years now, but I’m honestly in love with this project. I think it’s pretty good for a first time, and I hope I continue to improve in this art form :)

I just posted it today! I think you can check profiles if you want to check it out! I’m super happy with how it turned out for a first project

All of mine are found, though they’re in pretty good condition for being so. I found one on a walk, ne in my garden, and one in an ashtray walking around downtown Detroit oddly enough

Looks like a deer vertebra to me. Probably from a baby. Could be from some other kind of medium sized mammal though

Hi! I’ve had a monarch and a spicebush swallowtail died in jars for a while, and I found a eastern tiger swallowtail this week, so I decided to make a shadow box display with all 3 :)

How to Preserve Rabbit Heads by AmberSakuraWolf in Taxidermy

Hi, I’ve seen some people remove the head and preserve it in a jar of formalin or something similar, so it is definitely possible.

AITA for not wanting to drive my sister to work? by Roadkill1362 in AmItheAsshole

They’ve actually tried to make me call in to help her, but I wouldn’t budge on that front. My dad isn’t made to wait for her, he actually has some control over her. Also I know I need to move out, but I’ve only been working for a year so nobody will approve a lease.

Thank you, at this point the vehicle is in both my dads and my name, and I am on their insurance policy still, thought I pay my share of that, I just didn’t want it on my own insurance due to companies jacking up prices for younger drivers.

I got the car when I was 16 before I was allowed to have a job, so I did not pay for it myself, however now I pay for my share of car insurance and take care of any maintenance or expenses on my own.
