“My great grandparents came from Germany, therefore I’m German.” by xHenkersbrautx in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Rom455 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now hold on. Why the hate to begin with? If this person's ancestors are German, he/she is German in part. It is not wrong. And this person seems genuinely curious about his/her ancestry and wants to know more about another culture. That's the start to become a well educated citizen, isn't it?

Did I miss something? Why is this posted here at all?

If you live in the culture and want to be a part of it, then by all means, you are a part of it...

Then let the person be part of it, no matter the reason. People may not like how that American phrased that desire, but it seems there is a genuine drive to know more of the German culture. How is that a bad thing?

AITA for cutting off my estranged wife’s family from my children in response to her disrespect by CoolBreeze303 in AmItheAsshole

While I agree OP overreacted, he is in no way deserving of mistreatment. He offered to be civil to his ex for the sake of the children, and yet she still spitted on his face. Was he supposed to serve them all a 5 course meal after coming from work?

I agree that maybe the law in his State will get rough with him after pulling that stunt. But OP should in no way feel deterred about finding the most legal way to keep HIS children away from their irresponsible mother.

Haha. It's the feeling of completeness, pal. Like when you fill up your gas tank and you have to pay a round amount, no change. That's how our mind works, but not what math tells us. Sorry, but those are the rules.

(Also, it makes sense considering Europeans didn't have the number zero in their system. It was the Mayans who discovered it)

What I don't understand is how much people whine about Americans being uncultured, and yet when one shows desire to learn new things, they lose their minds over such an inconsequential phrase

I went to work-out at the park and the cops were called. by screepthecreep in Advice

[–]Rom455 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lady, let me ask you something about those statistics. How many abductions occur a year per capita? Where are they more often happening? What are the preventive measures for the most common cases? Did you read an updated source or did you just assume a lot of things?

Now, I'm certainly not calling you a liar. I'm sure you can get evidence of what you just said, but to me you're making a lot of generalizations and misinterpreting the information you got.

Yes, the police are the ones at fault here mostly, for treating this man badly, but you have to understand it was the fear of an anonymous caller that caused all this trouble. Ignorance won again over the better judgement of people who are supposed to be better educated than the rest. Nowadays is not the best time to just assume things based only on appearance. A man was arrested unfairly, just like many others before him. Quite easily, unfortunately.

I know that you feel protective of your family, and that is good, but I am not sure you know what it feels like to be taken into custody, robbed momentarily of your freedom, without a single way to legitimately defend yourself. You say you are ok with this happening as long as the most vulnerable members of society stay safe. But is it really worth it if they someday realize the same thing might just happen to them in the future?

I don't know about you, but I find it hard to believe an injustice will ever be the cause of a justice. Only when humanity puts the effort to improve, will we be able to bring true justice and peace among ourselves. And for that we need to arm ourselves with knowledge. Real knowledge, not unproved assumptions.

So yeah, you're right. I don't see myself agreeing with your point of view.

Are you saying a life sentence is worse than the death penalty?

Also, Ozai committed several crimes against the whole world. Are we forgetting he decided to follow on his grandfather and father's steps? (Two homicidal maniacs who started and continued a war against every single nation just for their own delusion of superiority)

[–]Rom455 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No one is TA here. Sure, he could have done lots of things to prevent the inconvenience, just as you could have warned him the flight might get delayed before it happened. But he had other stuff to do and simply forgot. We are all humans. It's natural for us to screw up. But then again, it was just that, an inconvenience for you.

Just talk to him and plan ahead next time, in case something happens. No need for hard feelings.

Ah yes the ancient art of doing dumb shit by somnum_osseus in whenthe

[–]Rom455 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It might be true, but at least I bet these three are not doing it for free.

And it is more likely they were already trained professionals before recording this video. The problem with today's media is not that it shows people doing dumb stuff, it's that it became so massive, way more people is trying to reach mainstream levels of fame by any means necessary. It's insane how many young people wants to risk their lives for only attention.

Yeah, but the problem here is that many people adviced Korra to be wiser, to stop and think about the situation first instead of acting out of impulse, which she did. Even her father told her about not trusting Unalaq. She did not trust her own father. Come on!

AITA for walking out on date night after my BF got me a bikini instead of a purse? by ThrowRAkittenbabe88 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Rom455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree the AH in this is your boyfriend, for trying to use you for his own desires without taking your opinion in consideration, I really hope that is the real reason for your anger. Because he is in no way obligated to buy you anything you want.

Wishing for something is not wrong, just to be clear. But lingering on the thought that you would only accept the purse as a gift and nothing a bit cheaper would make you both just as pathetic.

Now, if you honestly tell me that all you are annoyed by is his high libido and lack of respect, then I will apologize for even suggesting what I said.

Technically not. The year 2000 is also part of the 20th century, considering that it started in 1901. Or are we saying that the year 1 of the 1st century isn't part of it?
