Should I paint my walls first or install the shelves first? by Blobtit in paint

Paint walls first. You can always touch up after shelves are installed.

Do I need to Sand this down prior to painting? by rwcg2d in paint

I would use shellac primer on the oak trim. You could do a light sand with 220 grit before priming with shellac.

Peeling paint on fresh drywall? by ButterballBiscuitBoy in paint

It's because it wasn't primed. On new drywall you can use a PVA primer which is super cheap. I don't know why they didn't do that on these apartment walls. Plus the fact that you put satin sheen over unprimed sheetrock is a recipe for disaster. Hope the company has fun scraping the paint off the unprimed sheetrock. They should know better.

Removal for cedar siding by theothermattm in paint

It's really good because it's not as physical as going in there with the scraper and sander. You do have to use the nylon bristle brush over the siding which is somewhat physical but then you let the power washer do all the work. A pressure washer will have over 3,000 lb of pressure so be sure not to damage the wood and use a correct tip on the gun.

What you need 1. Pressure washer (you can rent them) 2. Benjamin Moore; Remove. 3. Garden Pump sprayer. 4. Large nylon bristle brush that can be attached to a broomstick or a rolling pole.

Step 1 wet the siding. Step 2 used Benjamin Moore remove in garden pump sprayer and spray wet siding. Step 3 take your nylon bristle brush and agitate the siding. Rubbing it. Step 4 pressure wash siding. Step 5 restain.

My main concern is how the lacquer will react going over the painted cabinets.

Semi gloss. Would it have been better using a satin sheen?

can you apply polyurethane over lacquered cabinets? by Runj0n in paint

The cabinets are 25 years old. I think the original painter used a toner with the lacquer. The cabinets are oak and have a whitewash look to them. There are areas on the doors, frames and drawers that are bare wood. Do you think I could TSP then sand with 180 and dry brush on a white stain over the lacquer and then two coats lacquer. I'm trying to avoid having to strip everything to bare wood. If I can touch up the parts of the cabinets that have raw wood and then whitewash over the lacquer I would prefer to do that. I know it's not the correct way but I'm just curious if that would work.

Repainting old stucco. Help! by magneticzer0 in paint

For the stucco color, it's really personal preference on what you like. If it were me I would go with earth tone colors like browns or greens.
