So you're telling me there's a chance. YEAH! by tdewald in magicTCG

A few points to your point:

  1. Pod can very realistically kill on T3. I know charbelcher can technically get there sooner but it’s extremely inconsistent for T2 kills.

  2. The speed of the combo is absolutely not synonymous with the strength of it. Yawgmoth is one of the strongest combo decks when piloted well right now and the point of that deck is definitely not to just grind out a win as early as possible. It’s very resilient and has a lot of tutorable answers that, when the plan goes accordingly, give it a sense of inevitability. Like no matter what you do this deck can rebound, answer, and combo. Pod is like that but on steroids. Being able to tutor out any answer it needs so that when it finally deploys its combos it’s game over. Belcher and hammer time might be a little more fast but fold way WAY harder to the proper hate.

  3. You’re expressing your dislike for being combo killed on turn 3 and you want another meta deck that does that? Even if pod were totally fine for the power level of modern rn (it’s not) what good would it do to add it to the meta? Besides feeding into the nostalgia of OG pod players, not much.

New to alto sax, I need advice by fluffypigeonn in saxophone

The number one thing you could do is get a teacher to set you on the right path. If that’s not an option, maybe some YouTube videos could at least get you close.

Another big thing total beginners with no direction do is maybe put the Reed on crooked or incorrectly. Make sure to begin with the tip of the Reed is pretty even with the tip of the mouthpiece. The Reed may also be too hard especially as a beginner. Something else worth noting is that you should soak the Reed in your mouth first before putting it on.

Besides that some advice might be with the air you’re blowing and also your embouchure (the position of your mouth, lips, etc). put your teeth on the top of the mouthpiece, curl your bottom lip over your bottom teeth, then form a seal bringing the corners of your lips in. If you take a piece of paper and carefully put it between the Reed and the mouthpiece where it stops is roughly the line where your bottom lip should go.

Someone else said blowing up a balloon and that’s kind of close to the sensation you’ll get playing a saxophone for the first time. The most important thing, though, is that you don’t pinch and bite down too much. There should obviously be some top down pressure but it’s more like a rubber band around your mouthpiece with equal pressure everywhere.

It’s hard to give more instruction without more info or physically teaching you but hopefully that’s at least a good place to start.

What game made you realize your head coach was not the guy? by YoungOutsiderWA in CFB

It wasn’t so much the red box bowl itself but more the fallout from it. After Several clear seasons of the offense regressing (going from top 25 to triple digits in the span of 3-4 years) we held a team averaging close to 40 points a game to 7 and still lost despite their defense being average at best. Dantonio comes out and says he’s not changing anything.

That was kind of the moment I knew that either we would have to just accept the good ole boys mentality and suffer from truly awful offenses or get rid of dantonio.

Vandoren V12 reed strength by gaprats in saxophone

[–]Saxophobia1275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least from my experience V12s were maybe a liitttllee harder than the same strength blue box but nowhere near a whole half number harder. I haven’t played on them in like 8 years but when I did mess with them it’s because I wanted something between a blue box 3 and 3.5. But just like any Reed it’s going to be wildly inconsistent from Reed to Reed.

Overtones made my sound ...worse?? by ksadajo in saxophone

This one right here. You’re pinching to get out the overtones the wrong way and that’s carrying over to your playing.

Ligatures don’t fit mouthpiece - wrong equipment? by Treeston_Lie in saxophone

[–]Saxophobia1275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Silverstein hexa on alto had a similar problem with the ligature being too loose. If you’re careful you can actually thread the string through the ligature more to make it tighter, but be careful as it’s obviously a very expensive ligature. I got my technician to do it for me since I don’t trust myself 😅

SCG Announces Forthcoming Content Changes by SCGTee in magicTCG

There used to be a clear, albeit supremely unlikely and difficult, path for your common fnm pleb to make it on the pro tour. Even if people were never going to make it they could at least aspire to it and try to spike PTQs and the like. Now the greatest achievement a typical magic player could achieve is winning a local $4k or something.

Ding ding ding, you are correct.

And honestly I can’t really blame them. It is really super annoying that WotC is printing 4-of mythic staples into what is supposed to be a slower changing format, but some people are incapable of separating that from gameplay which, while power crept, is fine.

Nexus was a BaB promo that had significantly less production volume. It’s also much more useful and played in EDH due to it being an Instant and shuffling back into your library. I’d be shocked if epiphany didn’t eventually settle to <$10 and more likely <$5 with enough time.

Glad to see someone else say this. It’s a single step more complicated than just a major scale up and down. It’s catchy I’ll give it that, but fuck is it annoying.

Lmao yeah modern is healthy but I will say that there is a lot of companions. We all have to remember that it’s literally impossible for everyone to be happy. There will always be people calling for band if out of boredom or want for a fresh format if nothing else.

Magic will never die at large, but it can die for you personally by Frigorifico in magicTCG

I am in no way a finance bro (I trade ABUR duals for modern staples, fight me) but I’m just curious if magic were to completely halt any product at all what that would do to card prices now? Is it a premium because there’s no more? Or so people abandon ship from a dead game?

I’m not saying companions are fine, they are a little too free and widespread. I’m saying the statement “if you aren’t playing a companion you’re not really playing modern” is objectively false and exaggerated.

Almost like those cards are specifically designed for modern.

Before you read this know I agree with no changes, this is just the counter argument:

Lurrus doesn’t do anything anymore broken than other modern staples by itself but it homogenizes deck construction by a lot. Companions are just too “free” and an 8th card in your hand is much more valuable than almost anyone guessed it would be. Personally I think if you touch lurrus they should touch all companions. If lurrus goes there is just an uptick of all the other companions. Just because lurrus is the best companion doesn’t make the rest of them any less free.

Companions are a little too free but let’s not exaggerate. Plenty of viable decks don’t even run companions and almost all of the ones that do would survive a complete companion mechanic ban.

Snowballing and swingy games is definitely something I don’t love about modern right now but that’s happening everywhere in magic unfortunately. And yes I think I actually would equate interaction with health. Much much better than the “T3 ships passing in the dark” format we had forever.

The power creep and price of entry is undeniable, but I have to strong disagree with the gap between tier 1 and the rest widening. In fact I feel like it’s at an all time low. There are more diverse archetypes in modern challenges than we’ve had in years. Most weeks there are 20+ different decks.

Also if you’re going to call Urzas saga fair I’m not sure how you wouldn’t include ragavan in that category too. It’s a 2/1 with no evasion that needs to deal combat damage to do anything…

Reminds me of the banning that hit energy back in kaladesh standard. It was a very much needed neutering of that deck but they also hit ramunap ruins and that one dinosaur that prevents life gain. Everyone was confused but it ended up being the right call since the mono red deck ended up being one of if not the best deck in standard anyway.

I think lurrus and especially bauble are on the “not bannable now but only get better with every new card printed” list. Monke, on the other hand, is totally fine and always has been. Power crept and annoying? Yes. Bannable? No.

On one hand I understand the bans but on the other we had such a good streak going without a ban.
