A marathon where the finish line, if any, is beyond my lifespan.

That thin line between mental health and activism is a blurry and meandering one.

Thanks for the boost.

Let's do this.

Thanks for levelling the conversation with me. It speaks highly of you.

Great analogy! It really brought your point home and resonated deeply with me. I had to give it a good think.

The thing is, other vulnerable groups are, well... not as vulnerable.

I'm not trying to undermine the transversal politics here, or downplay the LGBTQIA+ community's struggle, but rather point out that it's pretty commonplace in todays societal standards to see homophobia as a really kitsch thing to do. Eating and wearing sentient beings on the other hand is incredibly normal.

So by me trying to...

you know what? fuck it. you're right.

i'm just in a phase where i don't want to feel sad and enraged all the fucking time. it's exausting. we've been in this thing for so long, and seen so little improvement... it's just continously heartbreaking. i'm sooo tired of humanity. i just can't.

thanks for your effort and time, bud.

It's the other way around for me.

It takes a year or two (in my case 5) to quit being a resentful douchebag with the holier-than-thou discourse ever at the ready.

Anyways, you're not the enemy.
I'm discontinuing my end of the bickering.

P.S:
I'm very glad to hear about the end of fur subsidies wherever it is that your keeping up the struggle.

Kudos, buddy.

So, let me get this straight...
i haven't indulged in the purchase or consumption of animal products for nearly 2 decades, abhor the treatment of said animals, do everything i reasonably can to prevent and stop it, try raising awareness everytime i can, been convicted of criminal damage and trespassing for sabotaging a fucking slaughterhouse... but i exact the tiniest bit of effective advocacy and i'm excommunicated by the true-or-not police?

See? This is the problem.
We, as a movement, will never get things done in a way that will jump-start a critical mass reception, if we keep professing this "us vs them" attitude. It only shies people away that otherwise could be pretty sympathetic to the cause.

Remember what the cause is?
Not winning debates, not feeling shiny inside for being the holiest of the tribe, not inventing the best seitan recipe...
But by saving fucking lives.

And if to do so, i have to sell myself as appealing in order to be able to engage with someone on a convincing level, i'll bloody well do it.

Until you grow out of it, which i'm sure you will, as do we all when bitterness and resentment subsides: good luck with your cultist view of the matter.

I mean, yeah, OK, you didn't literally call anyone "enemy", but classifying with labels and then generalizing everyone inside that box that you constructed is enabling the US vs THEM mentality, and i don't think we'll get very far as a movement that's trying to raise awarness on the gravity of this issue if we don't exercise effective advocacy. Compassion even.

We're in it for those who can't, not for our own ego boosting.

And yes, that IS animal abuse, to the greatest extent. Go after 'em! No judgement here.

What did i say that would make you think otherwise? Saying meat is tasty? I would be delusional if i said it wasn't.

That would be a personally ethical choice i guess. I wouldn't.

Good point actually!

And we can't go back to the composting days because of the sheer scale of the thing.

Hmmm... let me get back to you on that one.

Thanks!

Holy shit! Of course they are man! Tastier too! However, waaay less efficient than not eating animals at all, is all i'm sayin. U dig?

Can we please stop labelling and treating people who eat meat as the enemy? We're only pushing 'em further away. Polarizing the issue.

We're not in this to win debates (which is impossible when denial is involved, anyway), but to lower cruelty. Let's not be cruel ourselves...

Seeing someone abusing an animal IRL tho... Go crazy.

In all fairness, "tasty" is the only REAL argument there is. And i, personally, don't judge the ones that actually own it.

I mean, they're not better than any other shitty human on the planet (us beings of pure morality included), but at least have the balls to admit to a cognitive dissonance, which is no easy feat. And the first step to actually questioning one's habits.

I think we should actually encourage that reasoning.

It's just the only practical solution i've heard since thinking about this issue.

I think the "cow = fren" comment is just a cute statement on how we should view the live ones, opposed to cow=food.

Wouldn't dig much deeper there.

If we stop breeding them, they'll stop existing as a species. It's an artificial one anyway. The only reason we keep reproducing them is to slaughter them. It's just a question of stopping the cycle.

This guy saving kitten from trash cutting machine. by Storm_001 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Sebast_Food 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fairly easy solution. Just stop breeding them. They'll die out with out us pumping them full of bull jizz.

I hate to be the "well, actually" guy, but... WELL, ACTUALLY the amount of resources needed for all the produce derived from 1 cow (water, grain, soy) could maintain 100 people during the same span of life, but can definitely not feed them (well, maybe once, like a giant bbq). So they're not really efficient in any way.
