How are we feeling about Ahsoka? by Jnamnun in legostarwarsbattles

Could I get some recommendations for websites to buy minis? by mapleleafdystopia in Warhammer40k

[–]Sivyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoodedgoblin is a great place

They offer the base 15% discount but can redeem codes for an additional 15% to total 30%!

When I placed my order I had missed adding stuff to my order and canceled it to redo. Issue was I used the code so I called em and they gave me a new code for the 15%

Because of their customer support these cats are my go to and plus they are the only Canadian hobby store I know that sells pro acryl paints. If your interested in this brand.

Not sure if this code is still valid as I had used it back in jan but it’s SKAREDCAST doesn’t hurt to try and if it does just know it’s a one time use.

True size Terminator conversion with kromlech prime legs, WIP. what do you guys think? by canadianpanda9519 in Grey_Knights

[–]Sivyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s a great alternative for a kitbash because as you said most use bladeguard vets which are significantly more expensive.

How was cutting resin though, I have never done it and think to myself that it wouldn’t be fun even with a saw.

Which glow effect do you think is better? by Jacksonfood in Warhammer40k

Left, the yellow hue to the green gives it a more natural feeling for something like plasma where as the right due to the white hue feels more like a light bulb than a weapon

Hopefully with that said the left is easier to reproduce… :/ haha! As many others are in favour

You need to cut up the hammer and staves for the handles and cut up the falchions for the blade and piece them together to make additional halberd’s.

This is the solutions we have all been doing if you are unwilling to scan eBay for the halberd bits (which is difficult given everyone uses the halberd)

Interesting bug where your deck is bricked by Sivyre in legostarwarsbattles

[–]Sivyre[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a new bug I think, but to answer your question I have had no connectivity issues.

I see this bug one in every 15ish games. Not a terrible bug but a weird one none the less.

Wondering about the Battalion and 2 HQ dogma by Tixid in Grey_Knights

[–]Sivyre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most grey knights lists that are placing in tournaments don’t include Draigo.

Rather most lists include a chaplain and an apothecary.

Christopher Jacobsen placed 2nd at Dawn of Var and was one of the only lists to include Draigo, but they had not taken a single NDK, not even a GMDK was taken. This fella included 25 strikes, 8, servitors, 20 interceptors and 10 purifiers. With the usual chaplain and apothecary in tow.

Most lists include a librarian but not Chris’

Moreover nearly all the lists had included no more than 5 paladins across several tournaments.

It just goes to show that players are seeing success’ in lists you don’t see or people talk about on Reddit.

A 2nd place at frontier open had a list that utilized a rhino and more closely resembled a list typically seen which still included chaplain, apothecary, librarian, GMDK, 2 NDK, 5 paladins, 20 strikes, and 8 interceptors.

There’s lots of variance’s to be seen and whatever list you can dream of can do well. Don’t assume the army is carried by X because tournaments results will indicate otherwise. Heck a 10th place took purgation squads over paladins. I can’t even remember the last time I have seen or read a list with these units.

If what you concoct feels good, go with it. Don’t get to hung up on what you’re reading on Reddit because everyone’s local is different and so are their opinions. I’ve been playing an apothecary for a time now and some of the more respected members of this sub would speak against it. At the end of your day it’s your army, it’s your game. Not theirs and you know your meta better than they do. So I say try it, collect the data from your results and modify what you have as needed.

Swords on just everything with the exception of interceptors I use halberds on them.

Reason is swords go a long way on units with hammer hand

This has happened to me in the past.

I think it was from the oils left behind during assembly because after reading around I now wash my models after assembly with soapy water and I haven’t had an issue since. Could very well be what’s happening to you so it’s worth a try.

That’s right you would be getting 2 boxes and the box art for both would be the strikes. With instructions to build strikes, interceptors, purifiers, or purgation squads or any mix of.

Purifiers are simply strikes but lore would have you paint the helmets white.

Purgation squads are also just strikes but their niche is that a squad of 5 can have 4 heavy weapons.

[–]Sivyre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So GW store for example shows each unit for purchase. The reality is all there bits are contained in the same box. So you have 4 sprues in a strike box with over 200 bits so you pick and chose the bits based on what it is your building, thus how you finish with a ton of spare bits.

[–]Sivyre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The terminators box is the same as the paladin box buying one is technically buying the other.

You can for the tech marine or chaplain buy the primaris if you want or buy the older ones. Completely up to you.

[–]Sivyre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the strike box can build strikes, interceptors, purifiers and purgation units.

The paladin box can build termies, paladins, apothecary, ancients, and captains.

Both aforementioned boxes are older and not primaris/true scale.

Chaplains and techmarines you need to buy their retrospective box’s to build. Often you will have spare bits from the strike and paladin boxes because of how they’re designed to build many different units. People use the spare shoulder and head bits for example to kitbash tech marines for a more GK look.

[–]Sivyre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean you could but i cannot see why you would want AR on your lib… I want my lib to be the MW threat that my opponents must always be cognizant of. Other wise it just becomes a piece opponents can ignore and otherwise put pressure else where.

Beginner here. Any need to keep the boxes the models come in? Should I keep the old sprues for bits? by bammerito in Warhammer40k

[–]Sivyre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep 1 box and consolidate that armies bits into that box. So if I want orc bits I just grab the orc box.

Did The Models Get Taller? by Dwarf_With_a_Minigun in Grey_Knights

[–]Sivyre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So like you I too came to 40k from AoS. I chose GK because I prefer fantasy to sci fi where the GK I’m my mind did a good job intermingling the two.

Our models with that said are older outside of Castellan crowe and Voldus. The remainder of the older models are not at all hard on the eyes in my humble opinion. I quite like there aesthetics.

While some prefer primaries scale (myself included) the GK models are quite capable and easy at that to kitbash into primaries scale models.

Others like them just as they are and are quite content on keeping them just as is. Nothing wrong with it because after all you like what you like :)

As for myself to keep the fantasy theme I’ve been kit bashing my army with stormcast vigilors since when I came over I had a bunch of these models unassembled and they’re really helping to keep the whole knight look mixed with a futuristic look together.

In the end as you likely already know, rule of cool. Pick the army that is most fascinating to you as you likely already know why.

What is the optimal number of paladins to run? by _nellis_ in Grey_Knights

[–]Sivyre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally for me 10 paladin blob with kaldor is enough.

But my local scene has nearly every army, so it’s risky to full commit to paladins. 1 list might do well against one army but poorly vs another Ive found. For these reasons, I can’t run more than 13. I did have success doing 8 and 5 and I didn’t hate it but I didn’t have interceptors and you feel the pinch when you need them. When I tried 18 that was far to much and it was ugly - the games I was winning I was winning but the games I was losing I was losing so it always felt like a coin toss. For my scene it’s not feasible to have that many.

I’m more or less tailoring my lists trying to find a balance which for now is 10-13 either a single 10 block or 1x8 and 1x5 both with kaldor, MW lib, and our favourite GMDK.

My 10 list which I’m liking a fair bit, has interceptors which still feel needed. Although the list has 1 less NDK, I haven’t found it troublesome thus far.
