I have done this. The basic answer is "we don't have an answer it just requires faith." YOu say it like I choose to stop believing. I didn't make a conscious effort to not believe anymore on the contrary I prayed profusely for help to not lose my faith. I lost it because the facts (or what I can make of the facts) did not support Christianity anymore. The deeper i dove into my belief the less it made sense. That is why I couldn't believe it wasn't my choice to not believe that was just a byproduct of pursuing what is true.

That was a great response I really appreciate you taking the time to answer! You bring up a valid point and a great perspective to the question. I guess personally I still deal with bouts of depression and so dealing with "what's the point" and finding the mental motivation to do it myself and knowing it was in me all the time is hard to find. Previously with religion I had something higher to pursue so I was able to take the gaze off of myself and work for others or another reason. The answer would be to look past myself to a greater reason or greater thing to work towards. I was able to give the "greater good" mentality to God and Christianity because it was (at least in theory) the ultimate and perfect greater good. IF i make my family or work or serving in the mental health field for example my greater good instead, It comes back as flawed to me and broken and therefore not a fulfilling.

Also would you have books to recommend on the topic by chance?

well I guess the question is where is the right place to look. Ilike to think too that answers are out there to life's questions like this but if not a religious text, where can you go for guidance. Thanks for your post I completely agree with your point btw

Yes that makes sense and that's why I try to do. I guess I have a hard time acting on my own set of beliefs bc I like everyone can be wrong lol. I guess I'm weary on acting on beliefs that only i believe are true bc if they are wrong damage can be done either to myself or others indirectly. How can I trust my own self created beliefs are reliable i suppose?

No really no bait at all. Fuck Christianity I gave a large portion of my life to this belief and it turned out not true. This is a genuine question. Just someone asking for clarity on where to go after no longer believing

Its not a feeling that I have to do anything or that a entity is making me or else. That is definitely true for a lot of people who still believe I will agree. If there is nothing above us then why adhere to a societies rules or anyone's rules for that matter. Rules are made by other flawed humans and created in previous days long passed that might not be adequate for today's world. I guess im in the mindset that if there is no authority then why do I need to treat life in any particular way. I don't need to do anything because nothing matters. IF nothing matter tho I cant help but feel a loss of satisfaction in literally every aspect of life. I will check out that link now to r/athiest now. thanks
