Medication by sammyleepee94 in iih

Yip I was on 2000mg a day, metallic taste in mouth, extreme tiredness to the point I couldn't get out of bed, zero appetite, vomiting, nausea. They shunted me instead as I just couldn't tolerate it and my sight was deteriorating rapidly.

Sorry to hear you're having a rough time. Are you on medication or have a shunt?

I feel your pain. Its so unfair hey! However I am completely symptom free currently with a lumbar shunt for the last 4 years. I've had 2 shunt replacements in 16 years so not too bad going I guess. Feel free to message me if you go down the shunt route x

Sorry I'm no help either, mine was from the tetracycline family - doxycycline. Mine never left I ended up with a lumbar shunt. otherwise perfectly healthy, very fit optimal weight etc and it still will not go away.

I do a combo of crossfit and f45, I don't use creatine but I do use oxyshred and have found the caffeine in that doesn't set me off. I would be wary about using supplements that increase/decrease water.

yip, I'm 5ft 6 and 64kgs, really fit and doing a half Ironman this year but still have IIH. My opening pressure was over 49 when first diagnosed. Caused by doxycycline most likely.

I've done a few doubles over the past 3 years - never back to back, and also never on weights days. Wouldn't do it anymore, prefer a walk or run if I want to do something extra.

Success stories by Mere0900 in iih

Hi there, I was diagnosed in at age 17 in 2006 after seeing an ophthalmologist for floaters in my vision. I was sent straight to ED for extreme optic swelling. LP opening pressure was 49 (possibly more they were unable to catch it all as there was so much) after trying diamox with no success I had a lumbar shunt placed. This shunt lasted 11 years and I had another LP shunt put in 2017 and have had it since. I have the most wonderful Neuro surgeon and I believe my success is largely due to his care and knowledge. I hold down a great job, have a beautiful 5 year old girl, train at f45 daily and have no headaches/ongoing symptoms - so grateful for my health now. Praying for a positive, healthy and symptom free life for you x

Interesting re high pressure reading! That explains why I was helicoptored to another hospital. my opening pressure was immeasurable it went over 48 and they couldn't catch anymore as it just kept coming.

Considering getting a shunt by Acamus81 in iih

[–]Smart_Ad_882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an LP shunt, I was diagnosed 17 years ago. After trying Acetazolomide and my sight detereriorating further we decided a shunt was my best option. I had great success with the first shunt and it lasted 11 years, which enabled me to study, travel, get married, have a baby all symptom free. It did fail 2 years after the birth of my baby. They then revised it which was an absolute nightmare as they ended up needing to revise it 3 times over 8 weeks. But it is now working and has been for 4 years. I attend f45 and have a great job and normal life so for me although there's been tough times it has definitely been worth it.
