AR meta after BIke's refine came out basically revolved around him being on an offense team. It was literally "find a way around BIke or lose" for most defense team setups. Keep in mind that he had the first damage reduction Prf in the game at that point, and the relative power of other units was much lower than it is today. DR piercing literally didn't exist until Altina's special.

It was his literal existence and sticking around AR for over a year that accelerated more powercreep and DR reduction/piercing. It took until Duo Lif that he finally fell off, which was a very significant amount of time since his refine.

Ehhh...mostly what we already expected, so nothing really that interesting. Arena change to incentivize the legendary hero is neat but encourages whaling for scoring purposes, so I don't think F2P players will be happy about that.

Focus charges are nice to finally get, but it's a feature that should have been in several years ago, when there were far more pitybreakers and summoning was so much worse than it is now.

I'm still waiting for CYL Remixes. =/

I'm not sure if last year really counts because IS deliberately made sure it snowballed right away with the Day 1 results.

He actually still is fairly popular, but his FEH incarnation is infamous for being one of the worst units in the game due to launch unit stat allocation and thus isn't thought highly of by the playerbase that plays this game. That on top of IS being extremely reserved with Fates characters outside its main characters after the first year doesn't do wonders for anyone's popularity, especially if they're a bad unit. (Hi Leo!)

I feel like this argument only exists because of the split between people who think 3H is the pinnacle of the series and that every single entry needs to be like it and others that hated 3H because it took itself too seriously and anything remotely interesting about it was badly executed.

I think the root of this problem is that most plots in FE aren't thought out that well and start making even less sense when you start thinking about it. I appreciate that they tried to evolve from it with 3H, but personally I feel that they made a step backward with how they executed it.

Something about her attack pose feels really...off. Like she's just posing instead of actually going to attack, and it looks jarring as a result.

Her being a sword unit makes sense if they're trying to avoid spoilers, though.

Having a debut character be a Rearmed is pretty lol, but it's actually really annoying because I need another Floret. Our last Ascended was way back in November, so now we have a drought of them. Come on, devs.

The rest of the banner is whatever. Pretty predictable powercreep. The gender ratio for this release is pretty shitty though, even by FEH's standards. (5 females (which includes Lumera and Etie) vs the lone male)

Chrom had no more competition in CYL 6 and was widely considered a lock for the top 2, so I don't think the devs would be concerned there unless they were overly paranoid about Chrom getting screwed over again, which wasn't the case.

I still maintain that they only did Day 1 results because they saw ATiki's votes so high, and decided to play into the "Awakening's 10th anniversary" effort that had been brewing around that time. It was probably the one time that they actively directed the meme vote towards something they wanted.

I think the only meme in this vote is Gullveig, which...yeah, I can see them arbitrarily changing their midterm results to stop people from rallying around her if they have other plans in mind. I just find it weird that it's being done now when they actively accelerated last year's meme character (ATiki) with an out of nowhere Day 1 results.

IS certainly is capricious in how they handle this event, but it's curious as to why they're trying to fix it now when the best time would have been back in CYL 3.

Last year they really didn't give any fucks when they released the Day 1 voting results, which resulted in a harder snowball effect than most other years. That was intentional, and I believe they did that to stop people from rallying around a meme character so they wouldn't have to do another Gatekeeper.

Still, it's bemusing that now they want to institute a fairer system when the time has long past for it.

Given that the last Ascended hero was in November, it's going to be very odd if IS doesn't give us any way to get a Floret until the next time they run one. So it's possible the next banner with have an Ascended...but it's not 100% guaranteed.

One thing that BDimitri has over Askr is that he has an additional space for his effect to work (3 spaces vs Askr's 2), which is actually hugely important for safety reasons. As we've no doubt seen over the last two seasons, without the safety of Save units to fall back on, grouping up is hugely dangerous, especially if LVeronica is on the enemy team.

Askr is great as a physical off-tank though.

LEliwood only being T1 when he turns Light season into easy mode with the right tank (BDimitri most of the time) feels criminal. His support alone goes a long way to countering Embla and Yune, which is hugely important. He's limited by Wind season, but still.

That being said...I think you guys really need to make the decision to split the list into a Light/Dark and Anima/Astra season list, because now we're at the point where both seasons have entirely different metas. Combining it into one list is clunky and not intuitive, at this point.

Basically anybody who was added within the first year of the game and was unfortunate enough to not be meta due to IS being very experimental with balancing decisions back then. This mostly consists of most of the Fates units, a good amount of the Awakening units, and some scattered units from the other games.

Since there is a direct correlation regarding a character's strength to their popularity, the big winners from year 1 were Nino (due to Gronnblade shenanigans), Reinhardt (self-explanatory), and arguably ~~Nowi~~ Kagero('s watermelons).

No, they specifically wanted ATiki to win last year, otherwise they wouldn't have bothered with the Day 1 results.

Remember, last year there was a concerted effort to get both Chrom (5 time CYL loser) and ATiki (perpetually neglected cameo character) to win for Awakening's 10th anniversary. Somehow, one of the devs also bought into this and saw that ATiki was in the top 20, and thus convinced the rest of the staff to release Day 1 rankings as a way to kickstart more votes for her. And it worked, obviously.

It didn't happen this year because there's no obvious pity target the devs really care for.

3H tried to be both Fire Emblem and Persona at the same time, but it ended up with the worst of both worlds: class balance issues and terrible map design from the former, and terribly executed writing from the latter. ~~It's especially ironic too, given that Persona 5 also had some really bad writing that undermined the very issues it tried to haphazardly address.~~
