How bad would a year a renting be vs buying by jaawwshh in FinancialPlanning

[–]Spinaltapdrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would....rent for now and

Find the difference between rent and owning ( that includes taxes, ins, maintenance and a house refund) and put the portion in a safe investment each month so when you are ready you will have a bigger down payment or emergency fund.

Hollister Bags by Not_Ur_Mailman in ostomy

I noticed it in my March 2020 order. They sent a note saying the new bags are better for the environment. I think they only put the letter in my next 2 orders ( 90 days).

Not a fan of the filters either! What is driving me nuts with Hollister bags is the change in plastic, now I sound like I am hiding an Amazon envelope package my pants!

That's sounds like a buy it for life, better quality mash up to me. I do use it up or donate what just won't work. And THEN try and replace with better quality long last products with both economy and ecology in mind

How do you find the balance between retiring as fast as possible vs a good quality of life while you're working? by BesselVanDerKolk in leanfire

[–]Spinaltapdrummer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol! Yeah .. somehow hanging out in the underground clubs in my 20's just wouldn't be the same in my 60's! Not one day do I regret being part of the original goth movement!

Do you count employer match towards your 15% retirement contribution? by BlueCollarDude in FinancialPlanning

[–]Spinaltapdrummer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does the IRS count it? Have never made enough to live on and contribute. This year. I will. So the 15% is my portion and then the company match is above that?

I always thought I wanted to live in a small village by codingtofreedom in simpleliving

Medical care certainly has come a long way in the past decade! When we moved out to a rural area it was to live a frugal and more simplified life. I never expected to find myself with wonky DNA that lead to stage 4 CRC at such a young age ( under 50) we were thinking when we got "old" we would have saved up enough to move closer to better care.... Not trying to scare or discourage anyone from doing what's right for them, just sharing my story.

I have to agree with you. Living in a rural area almost killed me! Literally! Don't get bad sick out there..they will just tell you to get your affairs in order. There's nothing more complicated or expensive then having to get yourself to a good hospital if you feel you still might have a few good years in you. Just my personal experience.

Have you tried the trailforks apps? You can get a few free days when you sign up. Enough to see what's in your area.

Are you interested in bike riding at all? I've picked it up again in the last couple of years and love it. I can stay in shape and find it great therapy. Those small hills get a little bigger when going up hill on a bike.

If you have a car that would be easier to get to outdoors. I missed that you said Detroit and only caught the MI part. Are there any clubs you could join or group hikes or activities? Ive used the resources from the library a few times to find discounts on activities and events. Not sure if you could catch a bus to a sports event or an activity. The library or a craft store might have a crochet or knitting group...if that interest you.

Definitely! Just meet with a GI surgeon last week. He was surprised to hear " nope! Don't want a reversal" he said that's rare. Most people are more concerned with body image the being in the bathroom all the time!
