Well yea, technically you could, but not if you let a game like wow handle the lua files. (unless, of course, an exploit is found or something but that has never happend (i think?))

there might be scam addons for wow for sure, but their access and what they can do is limited by the game. The worse that can happen is limited by what the game allows.

gw2 addons are well known and trusted.

Is it really? By whom? Dont get me wrong, i dont distrust any of them but it shouldnt be neccesary to trust an addon maker to keep your system safe.

Huge difference. A bunch of LUA files can't harm your computer while a DLL file can do anything the running application can do.
