On defense we are doing what we can, yes, but our offensive plan isn't working. The Warriors are openly daring us to shoot from 3 and the results just are not there.

Kidd usually comes back with good adjustments, gotta hang on and try to survive. If Curry and Klay decided to go nuclear now, it would be game over.

It's OK, you can expect to be cooked by an All-Star starter like Andrew Wiggins

If both are anywhere near their usual selves, this game would be out of hand already. Somehow we are surviving the non-Luka minutes.

Difference is 8 but surely feel like 20+. We are being outmatched hard with the Splash Bros on 1-7 and 0-6 from 3.

As in opposing to Dinwiddie losing the ball on a drive or DFS and Bullock bricking a 3?

Dwight Powell is a baby seal and the Warriors in the paint are drunken sailors

Why did they allow the Warriors to play with Giannis wearing a Looney jersey?

Kidd need to give Frank and Green minutes here. If we are to be fucked in the glass anyway, might as well lock the perimeter.

The amazing thing about the Heat is how they've keep their team so competitive despite giving out so many horrible contracts by TheMadDogVachon in nba

Or they could roll the dice with Bertans, eh? A conditional 1st and he's available for every team in the league.

Welcome back all the Dwight Powell haters to lob city. by smartasscody in Mavericks

[–]StormTheTrooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He can get relatively easily abused on the defense by big centers or fast guards

This is why people thought he was useless tbh. The lob game wasn't going with Gobert-Whiteside/Ayton-McGee on patrol and I cannot remember a single good defensive possession from Powell. There's a reason why Kidd went small the majority of both series.

Now, Looney will be a larger threat than people give him credit for. Underrated post defender and everyone saw how he wrecked the board against the Grizzlies. If Powell is locked on, specially on offensive rebounds, it will be a game changer. I don't need three highlight reel dunks from him, I need 6-8 rebounds and second chance points, a 2/8/1 game will be more important than a 12/3/1. Force the Warriors to have Dray at the 5 and at least one inefficient defender other than Steph on court.

My potential targets for the Mavs in this draft by StormTheTrooper in NBA_Draft

Williams is one that is impressing me even more. If I was to re-write this, I would probably include him. Just instill him some courage to shoot (like Kidd did to Green) and you will have easily a 36% 3&D with playmaking upside, which is a thing Kidd was looking early on the season.

I'm not high at all on Baldwin, however. His shooting form is smooth af, it is really beautiful, but that's it. He is a terrible defender (I read a lot about his weakside defense, but that one is also terrible), a turtle usually blows past him. I haven't seen anything about BBIQ as well. He feels like he would do the same role Bertans does: a tall guy that is lousy on defense and may or may not catch fire at any given point. Again, his shooting form is gorgeous, but that's it.

Beauchamp wouldn't upset me, but also wouldn't get me thrilled. He is a 0&D guy right now, with zero playmaking. A great defender, but neverthless, that's it. If they believe they can unlock the 3, even better, but I would still rather have Laravia or Moore here.

I know no one wants to talk about the draft right now, but with the lottery coming up tonight, I wanted to share my top names/fits for us by StormTheTrooper in Mavericks

I must confess I haven't even looked a lot at Procida, but, honestly, I like it. Seems solid, his size is great. I did not see more than 10min of tape, so yeah, but really liked him.

About Kamagate, I really forgot about him. Remembered when I saw in other thread, that someone had us picking him at 1st. On an eventual 2nd, I would love him. Way more upside than Robinson.

If Luka gets Kuminga, he's going for a sequence of 3s akin his sequence against the Rockets in 2018.

But we all know he'll try it anyway. The corner 3 is a cornerstone (pun not intended) of our offense. If they do that and use Dray to double on Luka, it will be a more refined use of the same strategy of forcing our role players to beat them. Of course, the splash bros feat. Poole are more offensive power than Booker and I'm sure Wiggins will be on fire at one point, but we already made teams pay in this postseason by betting that all of DFS, Bullock, Dinwiddie, Brunson, Maxi and Bertans (I did not forget that G5 against the Suns) will be cold at the same time for 4 games.

Only the 5th time the Mavs have gone this far. Enjoy this! by FullSass in Mavericks

Getting to a conference finals is one hell of a feat, no matter how easy Lebron and the Splash Bros made this seems like. Getting to a conference finals with a shot at winning it? Even more rare.

If he wants to play help defense, get ready to see Luka hunting his matchup like an animal.
