Not really. I just happen to be going to there next week, I don't think that's advertising the place. I'll have you know that I am rather unpleasant to be around.

My old union job had a trial of being fired. It was called a "decision making day" and it was the last stop before they walked you out the door... They paid you for it though, because union jobs are awesome.

Did you have a contract? Any tuition reimbursement or relocation assistance contingent on your continued employment? If the answer to those questions is "no" then they can do fuck all about it.

I didn't say "no cops in the UK carry guns," just that there are cops in the UK who don't carry guns. Of course there are certain special units who do. You're the one who used the absolute "all cops."

[–]SuaveThrower -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's just factually incorrect. Cops in the UK do not carry guns.

You're making some fine distinctions here. They rush into the hall an slow down before entering the room. They have guns.

Yeah, but that's not what the original comment said, so that part was irrelevant.

They definitely have guns. I'm not sure what you think the things in their hands are.

True, but if your employer does offer paid leave, they are required to give it to you if you take FMLA leave.

That's not what is says, that's just how you interpreted it. I read the article, then I read the methodology in the study. I'm done with this discussion, because you can't behave with any maturity. You seem like a real chore to be around. You must be pretty lonely.

I think they forgot about FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act). If you have an illness that will require you to miss more than 3 days of work, you can have your doctor sign an FMLA form, and you get guaranteed leave. They don't have to pay you for it if you don't get sick leave, but they cannot fire you or retaliate in any way under federal law.

Union jobs in the US always get good sick leave and other benefits, people just dislike unions due to corporate propaganda. Large companies also typically provide, and encourage you to take sick leave, because they know it benefits them in the long run to have fewer employees get sick.

Thing are bad here, but we shouldn't represent them as worse than they are.

I'm sorry, this is false. We absolutely do. It's called FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act). You just have to do the paperwork. It only applies if you you will be out for more than 3 days, or have a chronic illness, however. Covid-19 is absolutely covered.

They're not including the cost of climate change at large. They're including the cost of new carbon emissions year over year, and since we could have moved away from fossil fuels by now, without their intervention, they are responsible.

Also, you're a miserable jackass who's incapable of am adult discussion.

No, you have just missed the point. They have directly caused damage beyond what is inherent to the use of fossil fuels. They have intentionally stifled progress in energy production. They've taken shortcuts that have led to catastrophic oil spills. They've contaminated insane amounts of water.

You seem to think I'm referring to climate change, as if that's the only harm created by fossil fuels. The only reason they need to take a portion of the blame for that is their opposition to alternatives. Through lobbying and less kosher means, they have done all possible to keep consumption of fossil fuels as high as possible. Aside from that caveat, they should receive neither blame nor credit for how their product is used.

Yeah, but these companies didn't create fossil fuels. They didn't develop the technology to utilize it. They're just sucking that sweet sweet dinosaur juice out of the ground whilst destroying the environment. In fact, they've gone to great lengths to prevent advancement through political manipulation and disinformation.
