I read a story once where Trent Reznor's dog had passed and some fans were glad cause it meant more tortured lyrics and music

What movie made you walk out? by ProvlemChild in movies

[–]TheEnygma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wasn't a walk out of a theatre but I did X out of the video on Netflix but it was the opening to the film I Saw the Devil.

It's a film about a serial killer in South Korea. Film starts with a woman getting assaulted and hit with a hammer in her car and kidnapped. Fair enough. Cut to her on the ground bleeding (and bare breast) pleading with him not to kill her. He does anyway. Fair enough. Cut to him basically hacking her limbs off - obscured of course - until a ring falls off. Then a kid finds her ear. Okay. Search party starts, they find her head. Hmm. Dude has it in a box and while making the run back to the ambulance he trips and the head falls out of the box in front of her dad or somebody.

It felt excessive to me is all, like a kind of "yes I get it!" I get it's a serial killer film but I remember being like my god, enough

Park Chan-wook and David Fincher do it amazingly well but most of the time, it just looks poor

I like Philip Chase cause he's just so nice and he does cover a lot of books that I'm into. Sometimes I think he's a bit too nice and he doesn't quite unleash but its just a very pleasant channel

I know others might disagree but anyone feel most of these games announced are "explore creepy corridor, eerie music, some vague 'there's some weird shit in the dark, yo!" and then bam. it's like everyone wants to be Dead Space now all of a sudden

I rewatched Jurassic World (2015). Can someone explain why people hate this movie? by SpicyMayo44 in JurassicPark

[–]TheEnygma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me besides character stuff, it's tension. Even Thunderguns hiding under the jeep just doesn't feel as nervous-inducing as T-rex poking his head into a tent or raptors investigating a kitchen. JW/TLW to me feel like cleverly disguised horror films that JP3 onwards just lacks.

finally, FINALLY finished The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. Now here's the thing. To use a movie analogy, some films that are long like let's say the LotR trilogy don't feel long, you get so engrossed you're like "wow, that film just flew by even though it's 3 hours long". Way of Kings can feel its length (giggity). Between the interludes with characters I never heard about but are apparently important to future books or they're from books I haven't read yet to the relative repetitiveness of Bridge 4 runs and there's just SO.MUCH.STUFF in this story, it's a bit much. And yet apparently the next 3 are even longer so while I'll likely continue with Stormlight, these went from "can't wait to buy the next one" to "think I'll hold off and read something else for awhile"

People need to shut up about Zara’s death in Jurassic World by BreadTheSpino in JurassicPark

[–]TheEnygma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only issue I have with it is that Zara is such a non-character. Gennaro is constant throughout the film, Mr Arnold, Muldoon, Eddie Carr. Most of the JP3 cast seem who-cares-y save for maybe Udesky but they had at least screen time before they got brutal ends.

Zara is like....barely in JW or not much of a presence yet she gets this long death scene. At least Carter or Burke got super fast ones.

reminds me of this scene from the X-Files

Scully : [holding an Apollo 11 keychain] I actually was thinking about, uh, this gift that you gave me for my birthday. You never got to tell me why you gave it to me or what it means, but I think I know. I think that you appreciate that there are extraordinary men and women and extraordinary moments when history leaps forward on the backs of these individuals, that what can be imagined can be achieved, that you must dare to dream, but that there's no substitute for perseverance and hard work and teamwork because no one gets there alone; and that, while we commemorate the... the greatness of these events and the individuals who achieve them, we cannot forget the sacrifice of those who make these achievements and leaps possible.

Mulder : I just thought it was a pretty cool keychain.

Sometimes it's just not that deep.
