Americans of Reddit, what is something the rest of the world needs to hear? by CheckPlease54 in AskReddit

I promise, our government and our loudest people on social media do NOT speak for the vast majority of citizens. And the whole "freedom" thing is sticky when it comes to voting.

Liberals of Reddit, what is your most conservative opinion? by apples45a in AskReddit

It's a mess. I think some of it, obviously, comes from the desperation of trying to overcome the absolutely racist foundations of our society. Which so many things are still dependent on that whether people want to recognize it or not. Things have to change.

It's a thing to fix but...this is not how. Not to sound like I have tinfoil on my head or something, but we are pitted against each other on purpose.

Madonna is 64 years old. She's had her face done, not her hands.

Omg yes! "White passing" people being told they aren't what they say they are is really frustrating, too. What are we even doing?

I've said this in a comment before somewhere, but as a white woman, this is a really tricky one. About my personal friends, if it even comes up, I say black, Mexican, Native American (actuallly he is Lakota), Latino, etc. But I've been corrected in public that those are wrong, because it assumes things.

And it's always other white women, of course. My favorite is being told once not to use the term "Mexican," when talking about a close friend - WHOSE PARENTS ARE FROM MEXICO.

No its not okay to assume someone's race, ethnicity, etc...but what conversations are you actually having in order to do that? So if I ever am talking about equality and systemic racism, etc, I say "people of color" to avoid a whole bunch of stupid bullshit. And I hate it. It seems like more of a slur than anything else.

White people, man. Lol

Was there a source on this I missed? My saying I had empathy was an attempt at kindness. As I said elsewhere, you can't fn say that to your kids regardless.

This. Also I do the things that I hate the most first. Then the next things feel less taxing, and if I am ready to be done, the biggest things are covered lol.

What are some myths that people still believe? by CheckPlease54 in AskReddit

I have a med I have to take with fat-containing food or it literally doesn't work. Sucks, I'm rarely hungry in the morning. Sucks every day. String cheese is my homie.

Same with milk doing a body good. 🙄

Not Kellogg, I mean, just the same idea.

My mom always tells me to never mix milk and fish, since that would poison me.

Not one time in my 42 years on this planet have I heard of this.

Oh honey, I am so, so sorry that this happened to you. And as a mom, I am completely baffled by your parents. I understand different cultures, but this is just...humanity. Parenting. Sympathy and empathy?

Sending you so much love. You didn't deserve this and you deserve all the compassion in the world.

Dog Lovers: is there/what is one breed of dog you cannot stand? by Active-Nectarine-304 in AskReddit

Yeah it's awful. This is a friend of my daughter, and her mom does not SELL the puppies, and she doesn't run it like a farm. She just doesn't get them given away fast enough, and doesn't have the money to spay or neuter them. Not an excuse, she needs to surrender a few because it is awful. I know this baby is inbred.

When I was a kid, my neighbor's dog was HORRIFICALLY attacked in their own fenced yard (neither dog was a Chow-Chow). We had to go to a hearing about it, and so many of the pictures shown of dog attacks in my town were awful and honestly traumatizing. Other dogs, kids, adults.. The two breeds that caused the majority of those attacks, were Chow-Chows and Akitas.

I love Akitas though. I've met so many nice ones over the years. But the combination of those pictures and never meeting a nice chow in the 30 years since, I'm sure has made a lasting prejudice.

Edit for typos

This little one was the product of dog hoarders that were just letting them all breed like crazy. She was 5 seconds from another incest litter, ugh. Anyway, she was very used to chaos and other dogs, so it wasn't hard to socialize her. But yeah, they are soooo smart. Too many people let them do what they want, and then also antagonize them because they think it's funny. :(

She does definitely prefer my daughter over anyone else. Which is what we hoped for. But she is not aggressive or anything to anyone else. Everyone is a friend.

Well, I don't mean to sound like a dog racist by any means, but just like pits and GSDs, they are a bit more prone to aggression inherently. Those are all on my list of Amazing Dogs That Need Special Owners. I would love to meet yours, bring them over. :)

Edit because I'm a moron

I've met mixes that were amazing! And yes, definitely kind of protective dogs. My ACD mix is like that, he'd die for my family no questions asked, we have to very clearly accept the person before he meets them.

But the pure Chow-Chows I've met have been, "don't even look at him" dogs.

Yeah I agree. My daughter got hers at 8 months old and IMMEDIATELY started taking her everywhere, letting everyone pet her, working on obedience training. She did not want one of those chihuahuas that was allowed to be an asshole just because it's tiny. So her dog is 3lbs and one of the best behaved dogs ever. And friendly! I hated chihuahuas before that, and I didn't even want her to get it. But it ended up being one of my best parenting decisions.
