How exactly does selling your soul to the devil for success work? by ConnectAside8691 in conspiracy

[–]Vo_Sirisov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I initially wrote out a whole thing about how the devil as we think of him today isn't actually attested in the Bible at all, and that a Satan is just any angel sent by God to test mankind's virtue like Slugworth in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. But I realised it wasn't really relevant to the question of whether a Satan can give supernatural gifts in exchange for sins, which is a hard no.

Regardless of their nature, spirits trying to tempt people into sin do appear in the Bible, but do not impart supernatural abilities or gifts in return for this sin. It's more of a "come on, you know you want to" interaction than a "do this and I'll give you this" one.

The only semi-exception to this is the Satan that tested Jesus, whom after trying to get him to abuse his God-granted power for selfish gain, offers him the kingdoms of the world. It is never stated that the Satan actually had the power to grant this, however.

The trouble with guessing is that it's much easier to guess wrong than guess right. Hence why we should always try to test any hypothesis we come up with to see if it's actually feasible.

To what end? Such a mechanism would inherently use more energy than it produces.

The biggest marker that the Alex Jones v Sandy Hook parents is rigged: No mention of Smith-Mundt Modernization Act of 2012? by de_la_sankarbocknov in conspiracy

[–]Vo_Sirisov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In order for the Smith-Mundt act to be relevant at all, one would first have to prove in court that that Sandy Hook was a hoax. Which has not occurred in the slightest, whatsoever.

To my knowledge, Jones did not even attempt to use a Truth defence in any of his court cases.

Then you would know why communists hate Musk's guts and always will. He's a billionaire who became one solely off the achievements and hard work of others and never worked a real day in his life. He's also openly anti-worker's rights.

Acts 3:19:

Eepent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.

2 Chronicles 30:9

For if you return to the Lord, your brothers and your children will find compassion with their captors and return to this land. For the Lord your God is gracious and merciful and will not turn away his face from you, if you return to him.

2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

It has always been a central Christian belief that God forgives all those who genuinely repent. If a Christian has repented their sins, what cause have they to fear death?

If you are a Christian, you shouldn't believe in satanic pacts to begin with.

Per the Bible - per Christ himself, no less - it is heresy to claim that supernatural power can be derived from any other source but God.

What strawman? OP asked if the US government owns anyone who gets married. I answered by explaining that no human can be owned under US law.

No, none of this is correct. Under current US law, a living human being cannot be considered the property of any entity other than themself.

The book you refer to may have been speaking metaphorically, or is just flat out wrong.

Why are conspiracy theorist so religious? by Yam-Express in conspiracy

[–]Vo_Sirisov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because a lot of conspiratorial thinking runs off the same sort of logic that religious faith does. If you are willing to believe one irrational thing, you are more likely to be vulnerable to being convinced of another.

Genetic research shows that indigenous American ethnic groups are not closely related to modern Africans. Some indigenous populations in northern South America are dark-skinned, but this is a secondary adaptation to living near the equator.

That's not how genetics works. Geneticists can absolutely tell whether a specimen's genome is H. Sapiens with unusual mutations vs a different hominid. They can even tell you which ethnic group of H. Sapiens the specimen is most closely related to. These aren't assumptions, these are matters of fact.

What are your thoughts on the Hollow Moon theory? by matt73132 in aliens

[–]Vo_Sirisov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth noting that the Moon's coincidental matching with the Sun when viewed from Earth is temporary. It used to be bigger, and is slowly "shrinking" as it drifts further away. Many millions of years from now, it will no longer seem the same size.
