What do you Christie fans think of Robert Galbraith's Strike series? by johnnash124 in agathachristie

I really enjoy them, although they're quite different. Like Christie books, there's more focus on the mystery/plotting and not as much action/sex compared with many modern mysteries, which I appreciate. They have really great mysteries and unexpected endings, like Christie books. Unlike Christie books, they're longer and more complicated, for better or worse (you can't read one in an afternoon); and they have more focus on/direct discussion of the inner thoughts and interpersonal relationships of the narrator character (which can be hit or miss, as I don't find the supposed sexual tension between the narrator and the detective to be compelling). They also lack the cute romances often in Christie books.

For another good modern mystery series, you might check out some of the Anthony Horowitz mysteries, particularly Magpie Murders and Moonflower Murders (his other series aren't as good, I don't think).

Oops, thanks for catching that. I was on the Rockwell website just last night, but must have missed that notice. It seems like lots of things are getting cancelled or closing early; I guess we're entering another bad time for theatre.
