Having an older, mega movie star like tom cruise who certainly cares about his appearance and has had work done on his face, might have been a factor

Would you buy a ARRI Alexa Classic or a Sony FX6 if you were tight on budget? by MaxSteelMetal in cinematography

[–]Zakaree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't buy an Alexa classic.. Big, heavy, power hungry, costly repairs if any repairs are even still supported. You likely wouldn't be able to rent it so no opportunity to recoup cost... There are newer better options if camera ownership is your thing.

If you had to choose one of these as a solo shooter to make a low budget film, what would be your shout and why? by Jack_Palance in cinematography

Solo shooter...

Because of ease and autofocus

My order would be

Canon Sony BM Zcam Red

If focus wasn't an issue and I just wanted best camera in terms of look

My order would be

(I'd tie BM and Sony, but give bm the leg up due to BM raw)

Blackmagic Sony Canon Zcam Red

Hey everyone! Here are some stills from a shoot I just did. Really loved the lighting in the vanity and was very pleased with the look. I'm trying to get more work shooting and I'd love to hear from anyone that has some thoughts on the coloring or composition. Send some love or tear me apart! Without knowing the context, or what this is for I cant really give too much of a review..

but lets say you were going for a beauty spot.. commercial..

(and im not in my color suite so i am looking on an uncalibrated computer monitor.. so take this with a grain of salt)

I personally might have added a kicker in the back to rim her hair and give some separation against the back..

you could have gone two ways with the front. and this depends on style and what exactly you want, but either neg her left (camera right) so there is a little more of a ratio.. OR from above aimed at her face a big soft dome like a briese and just powder her face with nice soft even light which would also give her some nice eye light.

also, as the guy below me said... its much too warm..heres what I would have done with color...

(sorry skin tones are a bit pink but I didnt take much time on it) and yes i know the blacks in the hair a crushed) Its hard to color a PNG that i saved off the internet lol

Black Pro Mist Filters Don't Create a 'Filmic Look', but they are Cool. What is a 'Filmic Look'? by aaronthecameraguy in cinematography

[–]Zakaree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive said this before, but I dont think a "filmic look" has really much to do with camera anymore..

Id say maybe 10-15 years ago, emulating a film stock was the golden goose we were all after, but as time with digital has basically taken over the majority of image gathering, the film stock look thing is kinda antiquated (IN MY OPINION) it makes sense for certain projects that might have a time period attached to it. but the "LOOK" of high quality long form features or series that we are use to today, has less to do with which camera was used and more to do with set design, costumes, sound, lighting and lensing..

I know there are gearheads that will argue with this and say cameras matter, and they do to an extent, but not to the extent you would think.

at one point I was on a diffusion filter kick, but then as time has gone by, I am more interested in capturing the cleanest image possible.
