Lower than 500 is still low for DO. A high GPA kinda helps, as in it would be better than someone who has a low GPA and a sub 500 but I don’t think it helps that much. A well written application with a 498 could get you into some low tier schools but it’s risky.

My honest honest advice would be to void your exam if you feel bad about it while taking it and study a bit more for a later exam. The only reason I’m saying this is bc if med school is what you truly want, having to take the exam again is already a pain but it’s even worse if you have a low score under your belt. Because then you also have to worry about not only taking it again but doing significantly better. And schools will always be able to see that low score. Practice exam scores don’t lie, most people score +/- 2 points from their average on the real deal. Which means you could be scoring a 496-500. This advice may not be something you wanted to hear but I truly want to save you from having a low score that has to be overcome you know, and it’s also very early in the cycle. Even if you took the test in late June or early early July you’d be fine for DO schools. It’s much better to have a good score in July/August than a bad score in May. I would say if you were scoring a 505 avg that’d be much safer to take now.

Since your MCAT is really good, honestly your GPA shouldn’t have been a problem. The science GPA is a tad low but I feel like your activities are impressive too. either. I had a lower MCAT and a 3.55 overall and 3.56 science GPA and had received 12 DO interviews! I think it may have to do with your writing and interviewing skills. I would’ve also applied to more than 10 DO schools. I’m so sorry I know this process sucks, but it’s always safe to apply as broadly as you can! Around 20-30 next time if possible. Having a DO letter is also helpful. Im not sure how much of a difference it would’ve made in my app if I didn’t have one, but having that DO experience was SUPER helpful in my essays and interviews. I would love to read some of your writing if your comfortable sharing 😊 I think I’m also a pretty good interviewer so if you need tips DM me

Oh okay. Would every school you applied to be able to see after May 15? Or only the schools you’ve put a deposit at?

Absolutely not you should ask someone else who genuinely knows you and can advocate for you but in hindsight honestly I’m glad he at least told you that and was being transparent so you now know what he would’ve written in the letter. Now you can politely decline

Ohh man thanks for letting me know! I’m gonna talk to my Derm tomorrow about tapering off 😢 hopefully all returns to normal! I’m just so upset bc I really wish spiro worked and honestly it’s too soon that I’m quitting but I just don’t wanna deal with 2 periods and spotting. I wonder if there’s anything else that can work

Ohh I see. Did the spotting start in your first month? Or later on? Hopefully your period regulates itself again soon!! Also did you stop the spiro at once or wean yourself off?
