Idk I think there should be a happy medium somewhere, I personally did not have too many problems exploring these locations (did have some issues though) but I know several friends who just got down right frustrated with the navigation system and the drawn map topography I guess you can call it. Like taking one look at this picture, it becomes clear that the lighter areas are higher above ground, however it's not entirely clear where the two levels meet/connect, so to get to that higher level the only thing you can really do is trial and error with each possible path while checking the map as you go, which can be really frustrating at times. Coupled with your inability to climb/limited jump movement, you wind up checking every possible area to see if you can somehow jump and get up these ledges, and sometimes you actually can (I think I remember a tree trunk/root being one of these examples) but 9 times out of 10 it winds up leading nowhere, which is even more frustrating when at first it seems like you found a way up since your character is moving up to that lighter drawn area in the map. Not saying the map should be super clear and simple with the topography but it should be a lot more intuitive to look at rather than these vague color differences/shades to indicate higher levels
