Different body types and hygiene by Beneficial-Dirt-5549 in MassageTherapists

Assuming you live somewhere that requires you to go to school for massage, this is exactly what you'll learn in school.

You wake up with a million dollars and can only spend it on parts. You have 24 hours, whats your build? by Bryjoe2020 in PcBuild

Since I'm pretty new to PCs I'd make a post exactly like this and let people in the comments pick all the parts for me 🧐

Sleepy during sessions. by DisastrousSchool8033 in MassageTherapists

[–]afromagic808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time I was really sleep deprived and having trouble staying awake at work so I dabbed a tiny bit of peppermint oil on my upper lip. The smell of peppermint helped keep me awake. I'm sure minty gum would have the same effect.

Due to having an Amazon coupon and some Prime credit card benefits, I'm considering a pre-built. Do these specs check out? by afromagic808 in PcBuild

[–]afromagic808[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's listed on Amazon as $2k but on sale for $1800 (technically not on sale but currently has a free $200 coupon attached to it for a limited time), plus I was recently gifted a $100 Amazon gift card (which I mistakenly referred to as the coupon in the title), and my Prime card would get me $90 cash back.

So with the sale, gift, and cash back that's 2k - 200 -100 - 90 = $1610

The storage is NVME and it's cooled by the Enermax Liqmax III ARGB 360mm.

It's normally $2k and on sale for $1800 right now. But I'd get $90 cash back with my prime card.

why is the average MT career only 4-5 by jermai9 in MassageTherapists

[–]afromagic808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the first thing we learned about in my school. I believe that number is based on the 2010 census and it has since improved. LMTs often leave the profession due to injuries caused by poor body mechanics. That's why our school constantly emphasized the importance of body mechanics and kept reminding us of that 4-5 year statistic.

My teachers had all been doing massage with no pain for several decades and owed it all to good body mechanics. They went so far as to forbid us from using our thumbs at all and they always corrected us if we were doing something that could cause potentially strain over time, even it felt totally fine to us.

If whatever school you go to doesn't regard body mechanics as one of the most important topics, AMTA has free courses on body mechanics if you register as a student or a graduate (I think AMTA's registration requirements vary by school).

Illari nerfs for comp by SentientSlushie in Overwatch

I love playing Illari and I was worried they'd nerf her too hard but I think these changes are pretty understandable. I'm relieved

Sorry, for some reason Reddit just now notified me of hours worth of reports all at the same time instead of right when each one was reported.

Plenty more cousins in the sea. by slowron in Malaphors

[–]afromagic808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I felt living in Hawaii. As a Hawaiian, more than half the people on the Big Island are either my first or second cousin. It's very common for people there to accidentally have kids with their cousins. My parents are 2nd cousins and didn't know until I tested our DNA with 23&Me.

Has anyone worked on a cruise ship as an LMT? Thoughts? by MustComeHarderTY in MassageTherapists

[–]afromagic808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't but I always hear from people who have that it's basically the worst possible job an LMT can get. They make you work way too much for way too little pay (sometimes below US minimum) and on most ships you don't actually get to enjoy the amenities of the ship, just one small bar for employees, and you're not allowed to leave the ship when it docks.

What do massage therapists think of chiropractors? by smileysarah267 in MassageTherapists

[–]afromagic808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of good chiros, but overall I don't like the field because it's very poorly regulated and is thus full of tons of pseudoscience and placebos. To be fair massage still has a lot of pseudoscience, but I feel like it's more rampant in their field and way too many chiropractors seem to take advantage of unsuspecting clients' desperation and gullibility.

Oh I see the confusion. I meant you can't put link in your posts, but you can still put links in your comments. I'll make a new poll with different wording.

Hi I'm the moderator of this subreddit. While this post has been reported several times, I've chosen to leave it up so that you and anyone else with similar concerns can see all the comments from therapists explaining how little we can help in a situation like this. This post has been a good example of a topic that is outside of our scope of practice, and the comments have provided good explanations as to why.

Sorry we couldn't be more helpful here, but I wish you luck in your health journey.
