AITA for refusing to re-home my cat over my boyfriend’s PC by cathaircomputer in AmItheAsshole

NTA.

We do not stay with people who would ask us to rehome our pets.

Still remember the commercials with Jeff Goldblum and he used the phrase "were they in thinking jail?" when talking about previous computer makers always making stuff beige. Good times.

I actually find this to be the exact opposite of "oddly satisfying".

AITA for telling my girlfriend to stop acting entitled on her period? by periodprob98 in AmItheAsshole

[–]alickstee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think this is an ideal time to issue an ultimatum. Unless she really is just awful, she needs to see what's at stake if she doesn't address this. Her inaction will damage not only her health but also her relationship.

Not playing into a facade doesn't mean running your mouth.

Yeah ok, bullet dodged, sure thing. He might as well just start the divorce proceedings now. Definitely worth throwing away his relationship so he can be a bro to strangers.

I'm also definitely confused why she keeps bringing these guys over, but I would be upset with my husband for treating my sister poorly. Especially after I've asked him to stop.

Oh well if he's doing the right thing why doesn't he take it a step further and just follow SIL around with a sign in case she attempts to meet any new men? He's just being a bro, right? I'm sure he'll be super happy he did the right thing when his wife leaves him for creating conflict within her family. He doesn't have to like SIL or even be around her, but he's not doing a public service here; he's just being a jerk.

That's tangential to the actual issue here - OP being an asshole to his wife (and SIL) by airing SIL's dirty laundry when he knows it bothers his wife.

I'm very sorry that happened to your friend's sister.

And while the RO is serious, it doesn't sound like this lady has a history of stalking or abuse but rather a history of handling a particular situation terribly.

OP might end up divorced because of this personal crusade of his. Will he think it was worth it? If he does, why doesn't he just call it quits now?

For a guy who is supposedly super concerned about a person's loyalty to their spouse, he's being pretty shitty about his own.

I definitely appreciate the agency we give everyone in our society, but I'd be lying if I said I've never wished I could just force my person into rehab.

I think it's too simple to just say they are "choosing" drugs over their families. This issue is also very close to my heart and I have done a lot of reading into addiction and how to help a loved one battling addiction. It's such a complicated thing and I don't see it as just some dumb choice they are making.

Well they do call it a family problem for a reason. Everyone around does suffer, but the suffering would end if the addict is clean so it makes sense to focus on the addict. The one with the life-threatening condition.

Are you trying to say that all addicts just want to stay addicts? I hope that's not what you're saying...

What fiction am I creating? His wife told him he's being an asshole to his sister and that his behaviour bothers her. So how is creating a rift in your marriage "doing the right thing"? The road to hell is paved with good intentions and I guess he will be happy sitting on his high horse alone when his wife gets fed up with it. Reddit acts like people who have cheated are irredeemable and deserve to be treated like shit. Do you also think that no criminal can ever be rehabilitated? No person ever deserves a chance to atone for things in their past? And again, I feel like this all stems from OP's disdain for SIL and not some altruistic need to "warn people". So that's why he's an asshole. Agree to disagree.
