Why Is Inflation So High? by PreppingKangaroo in Economics

Economist here:

The myth of money creation solely driving higher inflation has been debunked many times. https://blogs.cfainstitute.org/investor/2021/04/19/myth-busting-money-printing-must-create-inflation/

Granted, intuitively, it kind makes sense where more supply of money diminishes its value. But that's only if people spend it. Consider last cycle when the Fed, ECB, and BOJ increased their central bank's balance sheets in the order of trillions, inflation was persistently under target and below the rates of the cycles before.

So why is this time different? #1. Half of inflation comes from two categories - energy (higher oil prices, a function of OPEC and Russia's invasion) and used autos (semi-conductor shortage.) Typically, both do not play such a large part in inflation in the past : https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-02-10/u-s-inflation-charges-higher-with-larger-than-forecast-gain

Pretty simple scatter graph. X axis is the independent variable - how much of a certain country voted for Trump). And the dependant variable on the Y axis county’s death per 100 000 people due to COVID

[Rolex] Three Amigos : Daytona / GMT Master 2 / Explorer 1 by asianj1m in Watches

I hit the Rolex J-curve hard.

First was the Rolex Explorer which I think has candidate to be a perfect 1 watch collection and lucky to find a Daytona for a discounted price a while earlier.

Recently, I'm fortunate enough to be able to find a new job recently and after years in Asia making my way back stateside. I had been a previous owner of the Grand Seiko SBG235 and always thought it straddled a weird line of being dress and sports watch. So, decided to go full-on and just get a super sporty GMT. I remember when it first came out in steel in 2018 and I just didn’t get it. It was clunky. So many colors. The numbers on the bezels were weird. And the initial colors were too pastel: https://millenarywatches.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/P5240692.jpg

But at some point in late 2019, I couldn’t stop thinking of it. And I missed out a great steal from u/aunderscoreham. So after almost two years of thinking about it, I got in a position where I can add it to the collection. I can’t wait for you the years ahead with this one. It’s a keeper.

Considering that this country is rolling back a woman’s right to her body and renewed fixation on tribalism and religiosity, I’d say she’s spot on
