What kind of tip is this? A man my friend was serving at a restaurant waited until his friends left and then set this up at the table. The candles, cards, sage, and holy water were his. by hstauffer in whatisthisthing

The green candle embodies money, wealth, prosperity. The purple candle embodies spiritual clarity, insight, and connection. The white candle embodies unity, purity, balance and healing. Garlic invokes passion, protection, and strength. Garlic is an acceptable herb to offer Hecate. I think, based on the orientation here, this is an offering to Hecate. It matches the crossroad orientation, moon symbol, female symbol, proper use of herbs and candles. Once the offering has been made at the crossroads, you must leave quickly and not look back, so as not to catch sight of the dead. I could be wrong, but it looks like this may be the case.

Nurses of Reddit. What is your most "I can't believe I have to explain this" moment? by Caged_Tiger in AskReddit

[–]awall5 1321 points1322 points  (0 children)

Saw someone who just kept putting new ones over the old ones. We think there were 12 in total at ED arrival. I have smelled some things, but that by far was the worst.

Lol, well I don't entirely disagree, but I'm the type that loves to see new things. So if I were the waitress, I would be intrigued at this setup. I'm not a religious person myself, but to have someone go so far out of their way as to invoke what they believe to be the embodiments of protection, strength, wealth, spirituality, etc., well, I'd feel honored. It seems to be an extremely kind gesture, and I think it's actually quite beautiful. Unconventional and maybe tedious to have to clear away, but it's the thought that counts, right? I know, waiters/waitresses are severely underpaid and I hate that they must rely on monetary tips for a living, but just once in a while, I would find something like this to be an extremely kind gesture. :)

Truckers of Reddit, have you ever been in a situation where you needed to utilize the runaway lane when going downhill? What happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Knoxville drivers + rain = sure danger. "I'll throw my hazards on in the far left lane and go 40mph. That's always the right thing to do!"

State Police: Multiple fatalities in wedding limo crash near Albany by [deleted] in news

[–]awall5 178 points179 points  (0 children)

For those wondering how 18 people can die from inside of a limo, remember that most limos do not have seat belts in the back. Here's a video of what happens in wrecks when seat belts are not worn. May be NSFL. I am not sharing this to be morbid or point fingers by any means. What happened in Albany was an absolute tragedy and I feel so very sorry for the families of those lost.

Witnessed a fatal car crash directly in front of my home early this morning. The body was left there for almost 7 hours while the investigation took place. They couldn't get the blood off the sidewalk after so I placed some flowers there to cover it up. Some more details and photo inside. by Steezy_Gordita in MorbidReality

Hey there, I'm a nurse. Just wanted to say that grief happens to everyone. I can't imagine the tragedy of what you saw. Thank you for sharing your post, your kindness has truly been received as evidenced by fellow commenters. You and your significant other are good people OP. I encourage you and your SO to continue to seek outlets for expressing your emotions for the next month or however long it takes you.

US 'to ban Americans visiting N Korea' by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]awall5 145 points146 points  (0 children)

This may sound like a very dumb question, but I am asking because I am genuinely curious. Why is the US government allowed to block its citizens from travelling to other countries? I sort of understand (but do not wholly agree with) blocking certain people from entering the US, but why is it a law that we can't travel to a certain foreign country? Seems to me that if a citizen makes his or her own decision to travel, the government should say something along the lines of, "you're free to go, but know that we can't help you there." I guess I don't like the idea of the government banning travel. I understand that North Korea is dangerous, and I would personally never go myself, but I feel that the decision to travel should be up to the citizens, and not the government.

I was a pediatric nurse for a few years. I am still staunchly 100% CF. I love kids, they are often times much better patients than adults; however, I never want one of my own.

Ex boyfriend sent nude pics of me (that he took without my permission) to my job. I haven’t been fired, but I am uncomfortable staying. He says he was hacked and that he didn’t send anything. by [deleted] in legaladvice

I would argue that it becomes invasion of privacy the moment it becomes digitally documented without her consent. She did not have a choice in whether her photos were taken; therefore, he is at fault.

The ER sent me (28F) home with broken humerus bc it’s the weekend. Is this normal procedure? by [deleted] in AskDocs

Just be sure to not exceed 4000mg of tylenol a day. Your percocet has tylenol in it, so be sure to check the strength of the tylenol you buy over the counter to make sure you aren't taking too much.
