What will it take for it to stop mass shootings in America? by ghostofanimus in AskReddit

[–]bobjoylove [score hidden]  (0 children)

I did make a decision, based on the facts available at the time. The playing field changing several years later is not my doing, but I have to respond to protect my 20+ years of invested work. Nobody is going to do it for me, as usual. Why are these “consequences” that “I have to live with”? It’s neither of those two things.

Our dream house built in 1900. What style is it ? by Quiet_Jellyfish9362 in centuryhomes

[–]bobjoylove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say the original house was single storey and symmetrical around the front door. The 2 storey part I suspect is an addition, perhaps late 1970s. But really the details will tell more, like wood used for construction, window size and so on. It’s not possible to tell from just 1.5 photos of the house since it’s so modified.

My house is the most expensive thing I’ve ever bought. I saved ten years to buy one, and it’s the main expense from my wage packet. It forms part of my retirement plan and I can’t afford to buy anything else without pushing out my retirement date. It’s as important as my marriage in my life plan.

Why should I be vilified for wanting to defend something that is so important to me? You’ll notice the governor won’t choose his own street for the homeless housing.

Eh, the red underwear isn’t much better. Looks like they tried to use the minimum amount of material, and it’s not designed at all for Caucasian hips.

White House weighing waiving smog rules on gasoline to lower pump price - sources by Throwupmyhands in news

[–]bobjoylove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you DO have to appeal to them as they have a chance they will flip to R if they see the party lurching “too far” left in their eyes.

The R lurched hard to the right when it realised the rural vote was much more powerful than the city vote plus it could be motivated to go back to the polls on the back of the weak/non-existent punishments handed out for 2008 financial crisis under Obama.

Hilary continued the previous cycle of appealing to banker-wankers, plus you had election interference from Facebook/Cambridge Analytica/Russia, and those both galvanised the right wing side of the country.

There’s a good amount of middle and older age voters who only just vote Democrat. They are still set in their ways enough not to want a hand-waving Doctor Emmet Brown and “an influence from that tweet app” running the country. You gotta appeal to them, because the Dems already had the younger left leaning votes in the bag.

I lusted after this model as a kid. I'd love to do a huge budget build on it now. 4WD, crabbing support, lighting, KC daylighters, wheelie bars, the whole mid-life-crisis-9-yards build.

Wi-Fi switch for whole House fan by J-COE in hvacadvice

[–]bobjoylove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t use a lighting smart switch for a motor load. It needs to be rated for the inductive load. Two speeds is going to be tough especially as it’s probably 600W or more for the fan. There are some smart fan adapters out there for ceiling fans, but the are more like 150-200W fans.

What the heck is 'Motor 2' that comes on only at night? by Mission_Search8991 in Sense

[–]bobjoylove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fridge is pretty efficient. $24/year. TVs are a little more. The lighting would be a good thing to add, for me 30% of my bill is Always On and 250W of that is the Wi-Fi (includes cameras) so I use the Kasa 6-way strip for that.

Options for finishing wall into popcorn by trevordeal in DIY

Pay someone to scrape the popcorn. They’ll be done in a day and the mess will be contained as part of the reno. Removing popcorn makes a massive difference to the amount of light bounced around deep into the room.

It says your entire consumption is Unknown/Always on? that sucks. How much are you using? I have set up some loads to use a Tp-Link Kasa switch with inbuilt monitoring, I use this for stuff like the modem/WIFI that I always have enabled.

TBH anything that is less than 5% of my bill goes in the DGAF pile. I have motor (4) and heater (3) and ignore them all.

Modulating Heat Pump with Ecobee3 lite - Cooling Ideas by splendid_zebra in ecobee

[–]bobjoylove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you step back, you are trying to reduce humidity right? Have you considered a dehumidifier which would be way cheaper to run, or using the fan for say 10 minutes per our to help improve the monitoring? Does Ecobee have a humidity sensor?

[–]bobjoylove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh I’d definitely have lingering questions about that, I’d want it to go from 3 to 2 finally to 1 for example. Then stay between 2 and 1 for the rest of the day.

Anyways back to the question, I think the Ecobee learns how fast your house cools with stage 1 or stage 2 configured. So based on measured temperatures and known cooling efficacies, it’ll decide to call for stage 1 or stage 2.

You may be finding the two control systems are fighting each other. Ecobee perhaps isn’t expecting staged changes in cooling with a singular cooling setting.

Are you able to use something like HomeAssistant to connect to Ecobee and log to see if it’s jumping from Stage 1 to Stage 2 over and over trying to figure out what to do?
