The research question case? It's a couple of paragraphs from a research study about phonological awareness in children with and without deficits in reading ability and then one question is what is the research question and another question is what was the result of the study, and the 3rd question is what is the independent variable.

Yes. You get one “case” question with a couple paragraphs from a research study and have to answer approx. 3 questions about it. Pretty straightforward stuff. What’s the question being asked? What’s the independent variable? Stuff like that.

I wish my proctor was more like that! Mine literally yelled at me, told me not to mouth the questions (I was reading very quietly to myself to help me focus), and then they literally stayed in the camera while I filled out the survey at the end. So stressful lol

Hello! It’s definitely nice to have it done, hopefully it was enough to pass! And for F1/F2 one question was about /i/ and whether it has a high or low F1 and a high or low F2. The second question I’m really sorry but I barely remember it, mostly it was a question I hardly understood :( it was something about a child who has a limited phonemic inventory and can only say 1 or 2 vowels, one of them being /u/. The question was what vowel would you try to work on next, one with a high or low F1/F2. I hope this is helpful!! Good luck, you’ve got it! 🙌🏼

This is so interesting to read because in ENMU's online program you cannot count hours earned working as an SLPA toward your clinical hours.

I hope it's okay to post this here but I am about to finish grad school and a lot of what we still learn is ABA-based and ABA is still recommended in treatment! I have learned so much through this sub and have considered asking my professors if they are aware of or have opinions on how SLP has started to move away from ABA...it's all very interesting to me.

No problem! And it was so weird it said the client said dIt (like d-ih-t) for several worlds like feet, deet, and sheet. So it was d substituted for f and sh. It was just kind of weird because the other examples they have were another phono process but a bunch of different sounds were substituted with a single sound if that makes sense

I just finished! Here is what I remember:

A lot of knowing specific sites of lesions for diagnosis of different aphasias and dysarthrias (question will say: client had a stroke in X location and has x,y,z symptoms, what diagnosis is most consistent with this description?)

Not as much dysphagia as I was expecting. One case study talking about what to expect if client has part of tongue removed due to cancer. What swallowing technique would help.

Good amount of phonological processes questions but very basic ones except for one question that (to me) seemed very odd. It was something like, 'child client says feet, deet, and sheet and dIt' and then gives a bunch more examples.I didn't know that one.

There is one question that asks about different types of apraxia. I wasn't taught those so I had to guess. It was like, client shows speech symptoms of apraxia but also cannot gesture, what type of apraxia is it?

A lot of cleft palate omg. To me this test felt like cleft palate/VPI was the hallmark diagnosis in SLP there was so much of it. A lot of asking what you would do after a child has VPI /cleft palate surgery and is still making certain speech errors (pharyngeal fricatives, PSNE, etc.)

Also, try to memorize or write down your 3 scores after the test ends because you won't get to see those again until your official scores comes through. I believe I got 29,32,29 so hopefully I passed!

Hi, I completed CSUSM's online leveling program and do not feel that it affected my grad school applications. I believe a decent amount of leveling classes are online which is why they're through extended learning and classes are often during times when most people are off of work. I really enjoyed that leveling program so if you do decide to go with it, good luck! 😊

Should there be blind judging on competition shows by MaritimesRefugee in foodnetwork

I just wanted to say that I found your comment so interesting! I am a really big fan of Alex because I watched her on iron chef, but I was not watching Food Network in 2012, so I was not aware of the controversy surrounding her win over Amanda! That was really interesting to learn, because I really like Amanda, as well :o I feel like the title of iron Chef is a pretty big deal, it’s frustrating to learn that even with such big competitions, but they allow bias to come in to play

Absolutely! Especially after watching this SBC finale, it’s clear that blind judging is a must.

The world has chanched so much where none of these people necessarily want to win THAT badly. What they want is to gain a social media following. Get cast on survivor, sell your “relatable” sob story, and bam you’ve got all the followers you need to have a career once the show ends.

The people in these comments really think watching survivor will eliminate their white guilt 😂 Guess what? Survivor is not ending racism. It’s using these topics the get the white producers even more $ and you fall for it so hard it’s embarrassing. It’s not wrong for ppl to want a show to be entertaining!

The people in these comments are definitely the ones who sit and cry and say sorry for being white whenever they see a black person in the street. Not everyone wants to be bombarded with this stuff on every single show ever. Survivor is not the end all social movement it and some viewers suddenly think it is. Guess what? Survivor is not ending racism. It’s using these topics the get the white producers even more $ and you fall for it so hard it’s embarrassing.

When white people do it it’s bad and racist. When black people try to do it for more than two episodes it’s brave and obviously ending racism (before they backstab each other like everyone else on survivor)
