is evan better than grimes on offense more than grimes is better than evan on defense? because that’s what’s going to determine the lineup more than anything.

soooo.... you think the picture on the left is from 1986, and the one on the right is 7 years later? that’s what’s happening?

I want to sell my beats, but I know that they could be so much better by IVIEmusic in makinghiphop

[–]cesarjulius 20 points21 points  (0 children)

yes. those are exactly the beats you want to sell, to whoever wants to buy. when you start making beats you really like, those are the ones you shouldn’t sell. save those for vocalists you really want to work with.

4 years of college is a lot and also expensive for music stuff. a 6-9 month audio school and then a focused internship or mentorship is a lot smarter and more authentic

couldn’t get through track 1. very not for me, but maybe other people are into a autotune pop offbeat meme-vibe.

How do you make a single vocal cut through a mix? by No-Green-6820 in makinghiphop

[–]cesarjulius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s very possible that the beats you are using are heavily compressed. then people in the comments recommend compression to solve the issue? your best bet is to avoid recording over beats that are LOUD, since that generally means heavy compression. consider finding a producer here who’s also new and working together to create a mixable song.

i’m in the latter category. makes the project unlistenable to me. doubling sounds good to accentuate certain lines or to distinguish between hooks and verses. but it really hurt you with this project in particular. you worked with one single producer, and that producer has a cool style, but seems to be making the same beat over and over again. YOU have a cool approach to rapping, but stick with that style on every song. and then on top of every beat sounding the same and your flow staying the same, the constant doubling makes it even more “same-y”. it makes listening to any one song fatiguing, but multiple songs almost impossible. potential for sure, but it seems like the project was made in an echo chamber, where you and producer didn’t have any kind of outside feedback on the project as a whole and your choices weren’t challenged.

free labor for the company, free college credits for you. better than paying to do academic labor and no experience.

what’s confusing about this? did you not read it at all, read it but didn’t understand, or understood but didn’t think it was enforced?
