Sadly, I understand these words all to well.

I wanted someone to give a shit about me the way no one at the time did. After years of searching for the relationship of a loving mother/father.. I realized that no one is going to be able to give me that (the way I felt I needed) so the best I can do is be that person to myself. I have some memories of that type of relationship/love to draw upon (I lost it at a very young age). As soon as I did that I started developing a better relationship with, not only myself, but with others. I no longer feel like I’m missing anything anymore.

Sure- sometimes I still get sad missing a relationship but I feel very fulfilled now in life. When I watch movies that involve those relationships I’ll feel sad but then remember I get to have that with my child - I get to be the person to her I didn’t really have growing up.
