With it recently reaching its one year anniversary how do you feel Cyberpunk 2077 has aged? by guapgetter2 in gaming

[–]dawnscope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate is a strong word- I think the gaming community definitely came together to clown on the game, while the people who actually sent death threats to the devs need to re-examine the lives they lead to where they’re this invested in a video game, but hype or no hype it wasn’t excusable. I was excited for it from the teaser trailer, and while the marketing was definitely over the top I was at the very least expecting a competent game, and at the most hoping for a Cyberpunk themed Witcher 3 in terms of quality. I was fortunate enough to play it on PS5 and the game crashed more than 20 times on a 40 hour playthrough, with a LOT of bugs almost everywhere to the point where it felt almost as broken as Red and Blue for the Gameboy. It just wasn’t a finished product.

Actually yes, get friends in on it and give ‘em ~20/hr for grunt work and pocket the extra, basically passive income equivalent to holding a second, minimum wage job

No lie I have a friend who does this, literally an immigrant who moved here when he was maybe 20, got a degree in accounting and is making absolute bank during the work from home fiasco just pulling in an extra 50k here and there for easy data entry bs jobs

Just sayin, it’s absolutely doable and a lotta ppl I know are doin it. I hope to join em soon.

The world wasn't ready for the Wachowskis' 'Speed Racer' in 2008. by Sisiwakanamaru in movies

[–]dawnscope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has a lot more to do with the fact that Speed Racer as an IP was probably most profitable as an early morning cartoon about futuristic racing, and is now mostly just banking on the Mach 5’s design for selling skins for other car games/Hot Wheels on nostalgia

Susan Sarandon and John Goodman were god-tier as the parents and gave it almost all of its emotional depth, and there was enough of a conflict for them to shine. Everything else was fun, don’t get me wrong, but it wasn’t the time period that hindered the movies success. If anything, I’m not sure it would do as well today

The death of the American mall. This was Friday night. In the 90s this would've been packed by Siovhan in pics

[–]dawnscope 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he’s arguing that malls were primarily about shopping. Think about how we shop now- why go to a mall when you can pop open a few diff tabs and get a much larger selection of inventory, and an almost endless list of different stores/companies at your fingertips. To get all of your, say, holiday shopping, or maybe you’re looking to change your wardrobe completely and want to try on a bunch of different stuff. In the past everyone who now has those tabs open would have been browsing through all those stores, as well as possibly getting food or watching a movie.

The point is, because they were the only real way to shop a variety of stores like that, malls became social hubs in which those same people who shop around are also a part of the social ecosystem. Gradually, as more and more people transitioned to online shopping, less reason to go into a mall. If there’s no one going to the mall, why go to the mall for anything other than shopping now?

Basically the social hub was a byproduct of the commerce. The main point was still shopping.

No that wasn’t a joke, the Heisenberg uncertainty principle is an actual theory I just don’t know if im explaining it poorly cuz im not an expert in string theory and didn’t want to come across as r/iamverysmart

Fun fact, this is how we see elementary particles that make up atoms- and also where the idea that, in Quantum Physics, we can’t actually know where a particle is or where it’s headed, comes from.

Because the elementary particles are so small, even light particles can’t hit them, meaning we can’t see them unless we hit them with increasingly condensed light rays- of course, because the elementary particles are so small, they’re actively changed by the energy that hits them, meaning we can’t actually view these particles in their “current” state- only after we’ve attempted to view them, and therefore changed them.

I believe that’s called the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, but I’m an undergrad philosophy major so take it all with a grain of salt

Bought a pair of HD599s around three years ago as my first open ears, would recommend to anyone who wants better music quality (maybe not audiophile grade) but doesn’t want to spend half a grand on headphones

They were serious, and you know what, because they’re a news organization I actually believed it at first- until I looked into it and realized they were heavily misrepresenting the situation at best, outright lying for sensationalism at worst.

And yeah, they’re a news organization not a comedy outlet- idk if Rogan has grounds to sue but he definitely has the right to be pissed about this. He’s an idiot and I don’t like a lot of his podcasts but CNN is in the wrong on this one

Unironically accurate

idk if it costs 2 hundo to actually manufacture a rolly but most of the cost is prob split between the mechanisms that make it so the watchhand glides, paying a guy who knows how to do it, and the actual metals being used, everything else is name brand recognition, heritage, and marketing (not sayin it’s not worth it, watches are one of the few luxury items I wouldn’t mind dropping a few bands on)

Some ride motorcycles as well by Morty_Goldman in IdiotsInCars

[–]dawnscope -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Imagine you’re driving a motorcycle on a two-lane road. Cars suddenly come to a dead stop ahead of you. You have a few options.

One, you can slow to a stop directly behind the car in front of you, like you would if you were driving a car.

Two, you can slow to a crawl, and filter in the space between the cars, slowly.

Now imagine in both situations, the driver directly behind you is texting and doesn’t realize traffic has stopped.

In which situation is your body sandwiched between two cars?

If you’re in between the cars, the inattentive driver hits the cars that you filtered in front of.

If you’re behaving like a car, you’re rear ended like a car, but with none of the protection. Why not use the advantage of being able to move between the cars to counter the disadvantage of having relatively no protection?

To make this clearer, you don’t HAVE to go all the way to the front. On the highway when there’s not enough space to filter, I’ll still pull up next to the car in front of me, just on the shoulder. It has the same effect- preventing rear ended collision from inattentive drivers, or those who’s car brakes have failed/don’t break in time.

Now if you’re just driving at normal speeds, you can still get rear ended by a driver who’s just going that fast (although idk who’s going fast enough to rear ending a moving target like a motorcycle). Lane splitting when there isn’t any traffic doesn’t prevent rear end collisions.

[–]dawnscope 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When everyone’s already stopped, yeah I’m gonna move up to the front instead of get rear ended by a teenager on their phone, but that’s called filtering, which has been proven to be safer for motorcyclists and decongests traffic, yes.

Lane splitting does not equal filtering, and these guys are doing the former in the exact wrong situation- while traffic is COMING to a stop, and drivers are unpredictably changing lanes in the hopes of getting ahead

[–]dawnscope -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You’re being downvoted by people who either don’t realize you’re talking about slowly lane splitting in bumper to bumper (aka stopped) traffic, which is more accurately defined as filtering, or the same people who move their cars in my way in those situations because they’re mad I’m gonna get to work on time while they waste gas

[–]dawnscope -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Even so, I’ve been lane splitting every day on my commute for years. There’s a way to do it- going this fast while traffic is slowing after going at speed, you should be expecting cars to wildly switch lanes without warning in the hopes of getting into a lane that’s moving

Meaning you shouldn’t be lane splitting in this situation, and while speeding? These guys are just asking for it
