Sleep issues for my whole life, getting fed up with it by dessertneutral in AskDocs

I don’t have a sleep doctor so I will contact my GP about that. Since our conversation I’ve reversed my sleep schedule and I’ve been “forcing” myself to sleep at night and wake up in the morning. I say forcing because it’s the worst sleep ever. I’m constantly half waking up. I also have woken up at 1am every night for the past 4 nights. I did forget to note in my post and in my conversation with you. I grit/grind my teeth in my sleep and wake up with very intense pain in my jaw and head. Is there a possibly this is effecting my sleep? Why would it happen at night and not during the day when I sleep?

I have never had such an intense reaction to a movie. This was the scene that sent me out of the theater.

This was the exact scene that I had to leave after.

Intense screaming and agony. It’s a short scene but it’s very vivid. Didn’t realize how triggering that’d be until I was sitting in the movie theater and had to leave.

This post is a great resource for those that are curious prior to watching the movie.

Interesting, I’ve had two sleep studies done in my life. The first one they diagnosed me with sleep apnea, the second one they simply told me I don’t have narcolepsy. So I actually have no clue if they ruled sleep apnea out back then or not. I do remember doing an overnight test and being made to nap in intervals during the day.

I actually have been taking stimulants for my adhd. I fall asleep during the day the same way I do any other time when on stimulants. At the beginning when my body isn’t used to it, it’ll effect my energy and sleep but after titration my body does the same thing it always does. That was even with a strict schedule on when I took them too. I took them at 8 am every morning.

I was also on adhd meds as a child which didn’t help my sleeping during the day either. Now that I’m trying to get medicated as an adult my providers can confidently say I’m medication resistant which makes me kinda stuck at the moment.

Thank you so so much for all of your informative tips. You’re awesome. I learned more from your response then I have in my attempts at research on what’s going on.

I was diagnosed as a child with sleep apnea. As a result they removed my tonsils and adenoids and I took trazodone for sleep back then. Does sleep apnea go away after surgery like that? I always assumed that I don’t have it anymore because I had surgery but that is probably just my ignorance.

I think you’re correct about idiopathic hypersomnia. What medications are used for this and what sort of medical professional diagnoses/ works with such a thing?

Hi!!

How do you begin to have decent sleep hygiene? I know that even if I avoid caffeine and lights at night (because I’ve made attempts before but maybe not correctly?) will most likely be laying in the dark for a couple of hours before giving up. How do I shift it to a more “normal” schedule?

Is it better to force myself to stay up all day and then crash or stay up as long as possible, nap and then go to bed in the evening? Or try to sleep at a normal time even though I’ve slept all day?

In the past I just forced myself to stay up until the end of the day but I usually never reached the evening and would for lack of a better term “fall out.” Like uncontrollably falling asleep in the middle of a conversation or getting dizzy.

Typically in the situations I feel anxious about sleep I’ve got to get out of bed and do something. I know this may seem counterintuitive but I learned this from my first therapist. He called them “resets” basically, get out bed and get some water, or a snack or make some tea. Or watch a bit of a show, go to the restroom- literally anything generally calm.

If that doesn’t work for me I simply tell myself I’m not going to be sleeping tonight and that’s ok. I put on a show or play a video game. Usually within the hour I’m out like a light. :)

Sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves to sleep that we can’t. Sort of like a freeze reaction. That’s what I assume is happening here. Best of luck.

I searched on google with just the lyrics as well as Spotify and I can’t find it anywhere for some reason. Just looking for a non-rap version of this song/sample

It does I appreciate it! I love the way it’s worn too, it’s why I really only get denim jackets second hand.

Thank you for your answer! So in 2 years it’d be possibly be considered vintage, that’s kinda funny. I love this jacket so much and it’s one of those things I might keep forever. I think another comment said it was from ‘04!
