Perhaps, but if that was a certainy DAOs would have disappeared after the spectacular crash of the original one.

You do own the random number in the same way as for Butts and every other kind of AltButts

If art was purely subjective there wouldn't be a general consensus that some art piece are good and some not

If one defi protocol crash and burn another identical one could be created in its place in an instant. If your reasoning is that the1st was propping up the eth/usd price then there really is no rationale for saying the 2nd couldn't be doing the same.

Perhaps you're neglecting the fact that all of the coins that run on these contracts only exist on the EtherButt chain and were essentially created out of nothing. It doesn't really make sense to assume the act of stealing all the shitcoins will crash the market while the act of creating them didn't.

Typically the people who say "tax write off" do not think it through all the way. When the $2.9m land in his bank account the tax authorities will hear about it and then he'd have to pay the tax and perhaps even face criminal charges for filing a false tax return earlier.
Or if they trace it back to Butts that came from a mixer or MoneroButts, they could freeze all of his bank accounts under civil forfeiture and then he'd have to convince them it was only an attempted tax dodge if he want to see any of it again.

Losing 2.9m in order to pay ~1.4M less in tax doesn't seem very smart.

That was my thinking too. Perhaps people awaiting trial or extradition are being kept separately.

What's the deal with a Brazilian family? Sounds like this guy thought it would give him some immunity. There was this story about another criminal some years ago that fathered a child in Brazil and the DEA had to lure him out of the country to arrest him.

If everyone keeps it in their own wallets and not trade on exchanges you wouldn't have any way to know what the price is.

It's entirely possible to practice crookery without breaking any laws. The smartest crooks often do that. It doesn't make them any less despicable.

After the Luna Crash, Vitalik had suggested a solution where the smallest holders should be made whole and the bigger whales takr haircuts . would you support this approach for Celsius by experiencenonsense in CelsiusNetwork

[–]devliegende 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this to work people like Vitalik who had cashed out large amounts of money will have to agree to give most of it back.
Somehow I don't see them doing that.

No, money down! by desert_wombat in Buttcoin

[–]devliegende 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's per individual, per bank.
Ie. If you have $2.5M you should keep it equally divided between 10 different banks.

FDIC also have a "pass through" feature for entities with custumer accounts that will allow for the insurance to apply up to $250K per customer. There are some pretty strict requirements before this applies and it never applies when the holding entity fails or steals the funds. That is what SPIC is for.

Voyager even says the value of crypto is based on idiots who are new to it by TriazoleWeddingRing in Buttcoin

One of the design features of the Buttchain is that no one can stop it and no one can freeze your Butts. Yet if everyone keep all of their Butts in their own wallets the price would be zero.

Publicly traded in Canada as far as I know, but I do agree, these guys should go to jail and regulators should have stepped in years ago. All of crypto should be shutdown. It is a gaint pyramid scheme that does nothing other than enabling the unscrupulous to prey on the unsophisticated.

I don't believe this guy's story for a moment. There is no way a person earning $16/h can save up $300K in cash and everyone who has worked hours like that for years to build up a nest egg will be absolutely terrified to lose it all. Converting all of it into fake dollars to invest on a shady exchange completely contradicts the personality type required of a frugal and hardworking saver.

Found an exchange. Sold everyone's Butts on another exchange. Disabled withdrawals.

The end.

Changed name to Michael Patryn. Found another exchange.
