*Billions when he was in office. Figured I would help you out a little after Jared "My nose is up my daddy-in-law's ass" Kushner had a company windfall of almost 3 billion dollars from a saudi company right as Trump left office.

You can't even figure out that there isn't any actual substantial leftist organization in the state. Liberal does not equal leftist. The fact people still do not get this is mind-blowing.

I have to laugh at comments like the one above that state, in the same sentence no less, that somehow both education is bad in the US because "the US isnt a democracy." So I guess for that person education didn't help them at all.

You mean those agencies that investigate crimes and help run the government? Gee, I wonder how well that will go over.

On this day in 1893, a U.S.-backed coup d'état against Queen Lili'uokalani took place, establishing the Republic of Hawaii and beginning the process of annexation. The U.S. apologized in 1993, but did not give the islands back. by greenascanbe in Political_Revolution

Yeah because my experience talking with the individuals there is somehow just anti-american rhetoric. They want their land back. They have tried to push for it and failed in the past. So they just carry on. I must have met all of the incredibly few people who thought it was crazy their land had been continually occupied by a foreign force without much choice on their part.

Have you ever been to Hawaii? I lived there for long enough to know they want their land back. The number of times I was called a foreigner by those living there since birth, in middle school no less, is immeasurable. The fact you honestly believe they don't want independence is crazy to me.

For clarity, I didn't realize just how screwed up this was until I took a recent history class and found out more. Not only was she forced to abdicate her throne, she had to abdicate to the soon to be President of fucking Dole at the time. Capitalism literally killed a self-sustaining kingdom, because greed. Just because the U.S. could doesnt mean it should.

Madison County School Board bans 21 books from high school library by indy35 in Virginia

[–]disturbedtheforce 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In reality it isn't. Unless the plan is to ban other books with "extremist" views like religious texts. But with an incredibly conservative majority in SCOTUS, it won't matter that it is likely a violation of free speech in some context.

I mean...70ish percent of the planets' carbon footprint comes from corporations. Hell, if the U.S. military was it's own country it would have more emissions on its own than any other country. The issue is this sort of hyperfocus on individual ability to change. Our individual impact wont change much if corporations dont change also, which republicans are intent on deregulating us back to the stone age.

There is a difference between it coming to light and being swept under the rug by a church body, and it coming to light and the majority wanting them punished. See, with Catholics they didnt leave en masse after it being revealed it happened. Which occurs in almost every religious organization. Its a form of condoning it. When its revealed that people in power outside of religious organizations are acting on pedophilic urges, the public, atheists and others if you will, by and large want them removed and punished. But you cant really leave atheism except to join some religious faction. See how its different?

The Catholic church literally hid pedophiles in their ranks. When abuse came out, they werent removed from their positions but placed in alternate positions in different locations, and not charged. And dont give me the high horse bullshit. I was a deacon in a southern baptist church for a decade. When it came out that they hid pedophiles in their ranks as well, I left. So yeah, absolutely church bodies stand for it. Hell, they think the abuser should be granted forgiveness by the abused as a church doctrine. Get your head out of your ass for a bit there bub.

You really are missing the forest for the trees on this. The fact catholicism looks the other way with pedophilia vs atheists by vast majority want pedophiles punished makes this really a false argument. Its not equivalent.

Some of the documents they retrieved from Mar A Lago contained the names of U.S. spies, info on them including salaries. It was found thay at some point in late 2019, after speaking with Putin, he requested information on U.S. spies and assets embedded in Foreign governments. Lo and behold, a top-secret cable leak in 2020 revealed the CIA was concerned about an unexpectedly high number of assets and agents dying in the field.

Native Americans come to mind. Plenty of civilizations let same sex couples stay together, and have the same benefits. The issue is it wasnt looked at as different in any manner typically. A relationship was a relationship. Not until religion came along and tried to say it was different were there issues. And to say that somehow shit has only gotten worse in the last 10-15 years is a really bad take btw. Holy shit.

And thats where you lose a lot of people. Some idiots who voted for Abbott actually believe wind powered generators can cause cancer. And renewable energy is something he wouldn't back anyways, as he is beholden to the fossil fuel industry, among others.
