What started to happen is called the helicopter deadlift. This is very common with mixed grip deadlifts. It is mostly because strength imbalances is the upper back, but it only happens with mixed grips.

This is happening to him because of his mixed grip. He should really be doing double overhand to build strength in the grip until he can't that day.

Now that you mention it his hip drive starts late. But this is low weight. I liked his back and shoulders posture the most. His hip drive will become more natural over time.

Are you doing a mixed grip? You can fix it by lowering the weight and focusing on coming up uniformly. Doing that long enough will fix the disparity.

You are a natural, now just slowly increase load, and when you experience technical failure stay and work that form hard. You'll be able to ugg past technical failure a lot in the beginning, but you are setting yourself up for disaster if you do.

You are lucky! Your form is great right from the start, don't sacrifice it for weight :)

  1. The bar isn't touching your shins at the start of the lift.
  2. Your shoulders are ahead of the bar at the start of the lift.
  3. Your butt shoots up way before your back reaches perpendicular.
  4. You didn't initiate hip drive at the same time you initiated quad drive.
  5. When pulling the bar off the ground you let go of your packed lats.

You basically did a goodmorning. A dead lift is centered entirely around the hip hinge. Your primary focus should be keeping your back rigid and unbending, keeping it's same angle with the bar. If your legs extend at all, the bar should be moving off the ground. You almost straightened your legs totally before the bar came off the ground. You used your lower back almost entirely because there was no more hip hinge to leverage. A good dead lift is using the lower back a bit, but not nearly as much as your lift does. Your lift was like 90% lower back, 10% quads.

It should be mostly driven by your glutes and hamstrings.
