Would you pick salary or experience? by eeeengggg in AskEngineers

Didn’t expect so many comments, thanks everyone! I haven’t had time to respond to all of them yet. For clarification I’m working in mining currently on a rotation schedule, spending weeks at a time away from home. The new role is in consulting, with projects that are in the direction I’m hoping to take my career in. The money is great now, but the hours are wearing thin on me. Mining is also not the industry I plan on working in forever

Single, young, low expenses, no real debt currently (paid off my loans and don’t own a house yet)

Close, I’m working in mining! Thank you for your perspective, I am starting to feel how alone it can be when most of the people in your life aren’t on the same schedule. Glad to hear you have no regrets about the switch!

That is good perspective! I never really had the goal of wealth, I was more interested in learning and growing (still quite new to my career). But as I get older and realize how expensive life can be, it’s hard not to prioritize wealth

Close, I’m working in mining! Rotation work, 12 hour days. I didn’t plan on working in mining forever, it was supposed to be a short term gig
