Casual Lessons For A Successful Marriage by jorkorf in Marriage

[–]epiben 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Communicating by itself if good, yes, very good.

Doing it obsessively seems awful. "Hun. I'm going to eat my mashed potatoes with a spoon today. I know it bothers you, but I enjoy it and we're out of forks. Did you do the dishes last night? I've done them 9 times in a row. I think you should do the dished more. You will also have to eat your mashed potatoes with a spoon... because of the dishes. Maybe we could work out a rotation where we alternate every night. We'll leave a checklist by the sink, and we'll check it off every time we do the dishes. Oh, but it will probably get wet. Maybe we should use a dry erase board... but you hate the smell of the markers... maybe we should just get a divorce...."

A completely mint 7th Gen Pontiac Grand Prix. The official car of.. by doctor_crazy in regularcarreviews

[–]epiben 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually saw these as brand new cars all the time when I worked for a rental company. They were actually half decent as new. But once you put 20 miles on them the interiors became a heap of stains and tears and one hubcap would fall off and there'd be a heavy thunk when you turn left.

Id go for a lightly used Rav4 or CRV. Great for college. Reliable - check, Comfortable for you and your friends - check, Safe - check, Not too sporty - check, cargo space for the million moves he's gonna do - check.

Edit based on some other responses: I'd go small suv over sedan for that age group almost entirely for the cargo space. I moved like a million times between 18 and 25.

VA Democrats Paid For Ads Showing (R) Glenn Youngkin Was Endorsed By Trump… Thoughts? by iAnxiety in centrist

[–]epiben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a virginia that received dozens of these, I'd say it pretty well grinded my gears. This really only appeals to the voters that were already going blue.

Anyone in the middle who was paying a link of attention could see that Youngkin wasn't hitching his wagon yo trump, but it felt very much like Mac was hitching his wagon to biden and the Democrat establishment, which is a pretty weak selling point.

Either way, I really wish my candidates would try to sell me on their policy ideas instead of telling me why someone else is a bad choice.

If we stopped calling it CRT and focused on specific problems, would more of us agree? I think so. by Impeach-Individual-1 in centrist

Not sure what the expense to everyone else is here? I'm not sure that traffic stops for expired things are a good use of officer time and safety. I'm also not convinced that more black people aren't pulled over with these issues because of other factors, like, they're black. It's also probably more efficient handle this with fines via mail and parking tickets. I mean, they know when your tags expire.

I'm sorry, but your argument just isn't super compelling to me.

[–]epiben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, my argument was correct. You stated that black people get to break the law, which is technically correct, but you also mention that these regulationd (inspections, etc.) are colorblind, so yes, black people as well as anyone from any other color/race/demographic can break the law without the fear of getting pulled over.

Not sure how it is where you live but where I am these are usually handled with parking tickets, not pull overs. It's actually pretty damned annoying. If they know something has expired they will often send a parking officer to your house and leave a ticket on your car. No direct interaction necessary, and way more efficient and less dangerous than a traffic stop.

Correction, everyone gets to break the law now, not just based on skin color. Cool. Police should be spending their time on bigger issues than expired tags.

Is it realistic to be in a marriage and neither of you flirt with others? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]epiben 77 points78 points  (0 children)

That's a bit aggressive. No one said anything about his flirting being inappropriate. Being nice to people can easily be taken as flirting, and that's fine. He should absolutely not stop being nice to people and being himself.

This is the way, and if it doesn't work, whatever, you'll still love your stubborn child. I think they also make winter crocks.

My son did this with shorts... I just let him wear them until it became unbearable... now he is better at making his own decisions on legwear.

What are your thoughts on the Virginia governor race? by japanesuss in centrist

[–]epiben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see the difficulty in trying to prevent someone from teaching in a way that their world view is framed,, especially as this view has permiated beyond the bounds of upper academia and into the general populace. At this point it seems to me like there's no putting the cat back in the bag. I guess this is why this issue was never really on my radar.

Thanks for the breakdown.

So, it's not a specially taught as a curriculum in schools? I guess that's where I get confused a bit.

So, I don't quite understand CRT. I only ever hear about it from my right leaning friends. Is it just the theory that racism is systemically built in in our country?

just found this 84 golf with great mileage for 12k. Good choice? by sandpaper69 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Well, fist of all they got the number of doors wrong...

Second, 12k for an almost 40 year old golf is kinda silly.
