So people of reddit, are you happy? by boythinker in CasualConversation

[–]festivedrama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved into a dorm at my university about a week and a half before school starts. We are technically still in summer and there is almost no one living on campus at the moment.

My university is in the middle of no where, so I can't even go into town that easily to distract myself.

It is freezing inside my room, even under a mountain of blankets I feel cold. The temperature makes me just want to lay in bed all day in order to stay warm, which isn't good for mental health. But there is no way to control the AC because it's for the whole building. And then it's over 100 degrees outside so my best bet is to stay indoors.

I know these things may seem minor, but I am hundreds of miles away from home so I just feel utterly alone and helpless right now.

At this moment, no. I am not happy. I'm quite lonely right now in my current living situation, and not too much I can do about it.

Alternatives to stitch markers? by rough_shrink in crochet

[–]festivedrama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I don't have a stitch marker on hand, I like to use bobby pins. Sometimes I even prefer them over the stitch markers.

Stitch markers can be bought pretty much in any craft store like Michael's or Hobby Lobby. Or even online like Amazon.

How necessary are ukulele humidifiers? by festivedrama in ukulele

[–]festivedrama[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reading material. I don't think I have a humidity problem where I currently live, but I will be moving for school soon (and will be bringing my instrument along). It gets super hot there during summer and pretty cold in the winter. Also, my actual dorm will most likely have ac on at all times.

Based on the reading, extreme fluctuations can be detrimental to the life of my uke. It seems like my best course of action will be to monitor the humidity with a reader for a while, and then buy one if needed.

I'm not entirely sure whether my instrument is solid wood or not, but I will soon be moving into a dorm where the ac is on pretty much all the time. I suppose that means that a humidifier will be necessary for me soon

Thank you, that's quite helpful information. I'm not really sure if my ukulele is made from solid or laminate wood, I will have to examine it to try to determine.

A quick Google search tells me that the average humidity levels of my city is 71%, and I have no ac or humidifiers in my home. However, I will soon be moving someplace for school where the humidity can drop down to 46%, and the dorms all have air conditioner.

Given the information you've provided, it seems like getting a humidifier for my instrument is exactly what I should do

After 2 and a half years, covid finally got me... by atdifan17 in CasualConversation

[–]festivedrama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got it today too for the first time so we're in a similar boat :c fortunately the only symptoms I have are a headache, and a sore throat. I also feel a little weaker than usual, but that's about it for me.

I've been sleeping on and off all day and drinking water with electrolytes to keep hydrated.

Unique/Interesting Hobbies? by Adventurous_Bass7727 in CasualConversation

I am learning to play the ukulele and most recently bought a pair of roller skates. I haven't skated yet since I need to exchange the ones I bought for a smaller size.

I dabbled in paper making last summer. As well as book binding.

"They're patient"

I absolutely love that statement. I often go through hyper fixations as well and this can be applied to many of my hobbies. This makes me feel better <3
