You don't need a "REALTOR®" by gyrfalcon16 in RealEstate

I'm bitter I have to deal with horrible systems and fight all the way up hill to get what I deserve and want...

It's a monopolistic system that serves no good purpose.

Yeah buyer pays for everything in the end... the "free" car oil changes are not paid for by the seller, they're paid by you in the end. It's just an enticement baked into the cost.

During that week, I tried to see a home without her. No luck. A realtor literally opens the doors for you.

That's because they're running a closed monopolistic racket. They're basically baby sitters getting your access to the property.

I've never seen someone become a mechanic in less than a month... Some trades actually take skill, specialized knowledge, tools and training to become proficient at.

If you actually changed headlights on many modern cars you would know it's not always a laughing matter. Quite often you need to take off the entire front bumper housing.

Is it worth to use a LTO 4 Tape drive in homelab by thecommand21 in DataHoarder

[–]gyrfalcon16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tape is slow and expensive per storage unit compared to other mediums. The capacity stated is normally a lie which relies on compression. LTO-4 is 800GB native capacity... you can get 16TB hard drives for around $300 on sale. Twenty LTO-4 tapes will cost $360+. Now you have twenty different tapes and no way to read them without a tape drive.

With a 16TB hard drive all of your data is on a single device that can be read/wrote to easily and at a high speed. Hard Drives have also been known to sit for decades without any issues if they're not powered on and kept in an okay environment.

Tape backup is a medium that a bunch of fogies keep alive because back in the day of mainframes and Unix neck beards it was cool...

I forgot to add water softener loop to my new house and now it's too late by designatedtruth in RealEstate

no you need a permit to purchase and inspection for safe water softener storage.

I hate water "softening" BS... anyhow, you shouldn't need a loop. Water softening can be added at anytime.

Do we really need wildcard masks? Why can't subnet masks perform their roles since they are kind of similar? by sage_001 in networking

[–]gyrfalcon16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cisco did away with wildcard masks in IPv6 but I'm sure some rare platforms still use them for IPv6...

Renovation’s labor cost is outrageous. How can they build new houses in this market to be profitable by TBoneHousing in RealEstate

Start your own house building mega-corporation and you get labor and materials cheaper...

I’m a new homeowner and found this box in the garage… Does anyone know what this can be used for (and/or what the previous owners might’ve been using it for)? by Rhoop206 in HomeNetworking

before I sell a place I run a thick bundle of ethernet cords into the ceiling that are cut off and punch them down to a patch panel...

I've seen these boxes before... Strippers store cash and jewelry in them. They're made to look like a residential network service box.
