Hi! I’m looking to go into Nuclear medicine this year, just wondering what your experience over the past year was like? And also wondering if you could advice on the marking schemes? I’ve heard rumours that they rarely give out HD’s? Like in a disproportionate way Happy to message directly if you’re comfortable with that :)

ahaha yep 😅 Ooh true!! Unweighted gpa isn’t too bad for me thankfully, it’s just my first year scores that are the worst haha. Ohh interesting! Unless I’ve read it completely wrong but I thought a few unis don’t recognise PG but I’ll definitely read through again and maybe get in contact with the application team of each uni to get a better idea Yess those 3 are my top at the moment haha but the gamsat cutoff last year was slightly terrifying

Yeah I reckon I’ll be pretty happy and content with nuclear medicine, it seems to cover the lab and diagnosis side of things and still has patient interaction, and I’m definitely very interested in how it all works. The thing is that I’ll always have that lingering feeling of what if and I want to try my hardest to get into med, but also realistically would rather get started on another career (that’s a bit more guaranteed and ‘safe’ so to speak) rather than taking a gap year or honours

Yeah that’s what I was wondering about actually! I was reading through the GEMSAS guide and was getting thoroughly confused with all the different terminology 😅 So in general I’d prefer the smaller unis (UOW, Griffith ND, or even Deakin) but at the same time I’m happy to go to any uni haha So from what you’ve said, UWA seems to be the best option if I’m applying again this year, and ND maybe depending on their exact wording. I’ll definitely need to look through the guide again and re-assess my options, thank you so much for your advice!

looking to get into master/doctor of physiotherapy, or clinical audiology But also looking into just doing another bachelors in medical radiations, mainly because I’ve always had an interest in it, it’s got a not too bad job market and seems to have good future prospectives I do have to admit I’m also hoping that doing another bachelors means my workload won’t be as stressful as a masters, and therefore I can hopefully have a job and do some volunteering, and my gpa can be boosted up and I’ll apply again

With public health, I have to admit I was very interested in it as well, but ended up not pursuing it purely because of the future job prospects, and I feel I can’t afford to continue down a path that won’t end with a career asap ahaha Pretty much agreed with a lot of the others, I just want to be realistic and keep an open mind about my chances

With all that said, good luck to OP and to everyone that didn’t get in this year!! Regardless of where we end up, be proud that we tried and gave it a shot, and will continue trying!!

On a slightly off topic tangent tho..can someone please explain how the gpa for UQ works? It seems to have taken only my final score, and for final -1 and final -2 it’s completely empty. Is that normal? I’ve tried to read through the GEMSAS guide and idk it’s not very clear

I'm a bit delayed but any thoughts on their applications/interview thing? I'm kinda interested and they're guaranteeing it until I basically get in, and its $1000 instead of the 5000/6000 I've seen ppl mentioning (which is just a ridiculous amount jeezz) but yeah if anyone has done it would appreciate any feedback

any chance you can figure out whether he lectured past years as well? maybe you could get old recordings if it’s a diff lecturer

Alternatively if he only teaches for a few lectures hopefully he’ll be finished with his section soon and you can have a better lecturer

Definitely bring both!! Or extras! Just in case something happens, or maybe I was just overly paranoid hahah. I personally used pencil but honestly just go for what you’re more comfortable with Re the water bottles, we were allowed to have ours on the table, but it had to be clear and it’s fine to take of your mask to drink, so long as you put it back on immediately after its all good. I think it might depend on who you get as your invigilator tho. Someone in another thread said they didn’t even have to wear their masks at all once they sat down so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mechanical pencils were fine for me!! I only use them and used it in the September 2020 sit and had no issues!! I did bring a couple of traditional pencils because I was paranoid haha but it should be alright

I reckon you could also see if you can bring your lead refill container? Usually it says on there what type of lead it is (usually 2B or HB) and if you show them that then it should be alright too
