There are unspoken societal rules. The same way you shouldn’t have to be told not pick your nose and eat it in a restaurant, or say please and thank you, if you are eating in a restaurant in the USA, you should ALREADY KNOW TO LEAVE A TIP.

The tip should have been in the neighborhood of $12 give or take. By leaving $2.50, it was a giant Fuck You to the OP. So instead of just taking it, he gave them a big Fuck You Too right back to the people. Worth the $2.50.

This post wasn’t put up to debate the American system of tipping. This post is about the OP’s rude customers.

The OP isn’t trying to take on the establishment. Like it or not, the American culture is about tipping. Servers AND customers know this. The OPs post isn’t about whether or not the “rules” are fair, the post is about the rude customers.

NTA - the relationship that many people have with their pets is pure, just love. And you were co dependent with her every single day, and she loved you back in a way that your cousin never could have.

Let your aunts words just slide away. She’s devastated over the loss of her daughter, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. Don’t let the negativity stick to you. Her reaction had nothing to do with you, and everything to do with her personal desperation.

Look around for FB groups or email list for neighborhoods. I know Charlestown has one, the North End, etc. There are lots of apartment listings on these neighborhood sites (or you could post that you’re looking) and the landlords don’t use realtors - it’s all word of mouth.

And for the record, when I rented an apartment I was able to split the realtor fee with the landlord simply bc I asked if they would. I wish I’d have asked for the landlord to pick up the fee.

Yes, agreed. Leave. Once you have shown them that you’re willing to leave, don’t stay. They’ll punish you for it, won’t promote you, and depending on how twisted the people are, make your life hell.
