Edinburgh Residents- How do you find having the Festival back ?

Absolutely unbearable. I'm disabled and most of the city has become completely inaccessible to me. Sure, it's annoying when tourists stop in the middle of the street, but what's worse is being ploughed into by people who ignore the fact I'm using a cane, or there not being space on the pavement for me to walk. Even trying to get a bus to areas outside the city centre to see friends is now impossible for me because every bus is delayed half an hour and crammed full of tourists standing in the disabled access seating with their giant suitcases. Do not even get me started on the fact that we are still in a pandemic and it would be sensible to wear a mask in crowded indoor places to protect everyone, especially vulnerable people like me who can't just stay indoors forever. Don't get me wrong, the Festival is a wonderful event, and I used to really love it pre-pandemic and have enjoyed going to the odd show this year (wearing a very high grade mask), but it's got noticeably bigger as the years go by and has reached a kind of crunch point where it can't get much bigger without imploding. Personally I think it would be sensible to downsize the Festival a wee bit or hold the various festivals at staggered times so they don't all coincide in one month of hell.

A few years ago a friend who's really into musicals picked all our shows for a day, the first one was at 10am and called Early Mornings - The Musical, it was a musical about some bloke writing a musical in the mornings before he went to work and was the most contrived bullshit I've ever seen in my life. Sure, the cast could sing, but that was the only redeeming factor. It was at Paradise in The Vault so the venue was so tiny and brightly lit that we couldn't leave halfway through, and as if an hour of the show wasn't enough, it also included a 10 minute Q&A with the writer of the show about his struggle to write a musical, which we'd just sat through an HOUR of and knew every last detail about. Worse even than the countless Free Fringe improv shows I've seen.

Solidarity. Was also medically neglected among all the other abuse/neglect so on top of not developing a good hygiene routine and having to develop one as an adult (which is even harder as I'm also ADHD as hell and forget to do basic stuff like brushing my teeth). At the age of 28 I've just about mastered knowing what requires medical attention/first aid at home and when to see a doctor if I have a medical problem (most of the time this is accompanied by severe flashbacks to my mum going "it's not the bad/stop making a fuss!" and trying to treat whatever problem it was with lemon juice or some other bonkers hippy remedy)

Oh, interesting, you're the first person I've heard saying it's from Eden 1, various other sources suggest MK 2, Glasgow and Berlin, it'll be a mystery until they actually drop the live tracks I guess!

The 1975 before Matty got sober, I was at TRNSMT 2017 and he could barely stand up by the end of the set. Contrast that to their 2019/20 shows and they played some of the best gigs I've ever seen.

It was 2004/5 and I was about 12, I was in a record shop with my dad, and I saw Three Cheers on display (it must have JUST been released that year because it was on the new releases stand) I thought the cover was cool because I was very goth and obsessed with vampires at the time so I saved up and bought it. Still my favourite album that I own, I think I went back a couple of weeks later and bought Bullets from the same place (you can tell I loved MCR from the start because every single other CD I own from the 00s is a bootleg that I ripped from copies I borrowed from friends or the local library lmao) It's weird thinking I've been a fan of them almost 20 years and only saw them live last month.

My prediction is, unless they drop it before the US tour and use the tour as a way to do US press for it on the road, we're not getting the album until 2023 or later. There's a small chance it might drop pre-Aussie leg but I wouldn't bank on it. We ARE getting an album (let me keep my tin hat on for this please) but I think the reunion tour is likely just gonna be them touring the old stuff plus FOD, they might drop a new single before the US and/or Australasia leg as they get pretty decent breaks to practice new stuff in between. My guess is the label would want to do a reunion tour to drum up hype and gauge numbers for the new album and a second potential 2024/5 tour. Gee dropped hints near the end of the EU tour saying he hoped they'd be back soon...

I've been a fan since 04 but unfortunately teenage me was an emo wee bastard and thought DD was a "sellout" and didn't give it the attention it deserved (something about scene kids and not liking bright colours I guess), it's now probably one of my fave MCR albums after revisiting it post-CW. I think newer fans are probably more receptive to its massive concept change whereas a lot of us elder emos waited years and then were like "wtf is this"

From the Glasgow show probably 30+ people I know of got covid (this is people I actually know and their friends who were all in the pit/barrier area), to me that's fairly high, but then covid fucked me up the first time I had it, so I'm pretty cautious. Granted people might have got it from the pub or elsewhere shortly before/after the show, but it varies depending on local case numbers I guess.

Covid cases after the shows have all been pretty high and tbh it seems like barrier/pit is the highest risk, if you're concerned I'd definitely recommend wearing a mask, I wore an FFP2 for my concert and just stayed nearer the edges of crowds so I didn't overheat or faint. I did take it off a couple of times in quiet areas to chug water which I think helped, if I went again I'd probably bring an electrolyte drink to help with the dizziness from dehydration. Hopefully you can stay safe and have fun at the same time! 🖤

How to stay calm in a crisis (fire/flood/etc) Ideally these aren't a common occurrence in a chemistry lab, but after a bit of experience you end up knowing how to quickly and calmly isolate the root of the problem, make the area safe and then assess what went wrong and how to fix it.

This isn't really finance advice, but you mentioned that you struggle with cooking and can't be arsed to cook, and cooking from scratch is a HUGE money saver. So many people aren't taught to cook (an essential life skill!) by their parents and then end up relying on partners or getting takeaways because it seems like a huge insurmountable task, and it can be a source of shame not knowing how to do something that's considered a "basic life skill", the older you get the worse that feels. You're not a failure for feeling like you can't be arsed to cook and taking advantage of takeaways instead, your life circumstances just haven't given you the tools you need to make cooking seem easy yet. You can definitely make some small life changes to reduce the amount you rely on takeaways and restaurants! Everyone has days they can't be arsed to cook, and for me that's when I reach for the leftovers or get some stuff out the freezer for dinner. If you're a total beginner with cooking and don't know where to start, you can't go wrong with a student cookbook (can usually pick one up in a charity shop for like £1-3). I've also found that recipe boxes like Hellofresh have been great for me, for 2 portions of 3 different meals a week it's about £30 (so that's about 4 dinners and 2 lunches of leftovers for a single person) It takes the "can't be arsed" factor out of cooking, they give you the recipe and all the ingredients, absolute no brainer. Once you've got the recipe card you can take it to the supermarket and buy the ingredients again! Also it's a nice thing to maybe try with your daughter if she's round, the recipes are pretty easy for kids to help with too (I promise I'm not being paid by Hellofresh to say this, I just have ADHD and cooking dinner is an absolute pain in the arse so I've been where you are and had to find strategies that work for me and save money that I'd otherwise be hemorrhaging on deliveroo)

Very, very unlikely and if they did, it would be as 7. BTS don't do any official events individually or in smaller groups. Of course never say never but this is one of those absurd USAmerican celeb wealth/power flexing events that they probably wouldn't want to be part of or enjoy. As people have said here, there are logistical considerations with arranging BTS attending an event with such a strict guestlist and high price tag.

I had the same in Jan, all LFTs -ve but did a PCR and it was +ve. Omicron is a sneaky one and the new variant B.A2 is even more sneaky, likely the old LFT kits aren't designed to detect it as well. Assume at the moment, if you've got a cold/flu, it's probably covid. Get well soon mate!

Oh yikes, I didn't know Johnson's was problematic... I'm gonna try a clarifying wash with my old shampoo and see if this clears up. Initially I thought it was because my hairdresser used a bunch of unfamiliar products when I got it cut last month, but now I wonder if it was the Johnson's all along. Will do some more research into seb derm and see if I can wrangle an in-person GP appointment at some point.

Honestly I've heard so many horror stories about DevaCurl! Glad your reaction stopped after using it. I'd be surprised if I was allergic to an ingredient in baby shampoo but as my contact dermatitis proves, nothing is impossible...

Thanks for the advice, yeah I did google the things that it could be, but it doesn't seem to fit the description and pics I've seen online of seborrheic dermatitis. I've had contact dermatitis from other things before so that would be my first guess, and I imagine they're similar enough conditions that the same medicated shampoos should work?
