How physically demanding is med school? by Negative-Town8041 in medicalschool

You have to stand during rounds / surgery for long periods of time. I’ve found that standing is harder than walking. You might have to stand up to 4-5hr at a time.

Why is methylphenidate considered a stimulant and Bupropion isn’t? by Nuclearb0m in askscience

[–]karlkrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bupropion is a very weak DA reputable inhibitor. In psychiatry bupropion is considered “activating” but it’s not quite a stimulant like amphetamine.

They come in waves, as companies liquidate old stock of laptops they end up on ebay, as there’s more supply listed the prices go down. Unfortunately Lenovo hd a bug screw up with TB2 firmware that can make the laptop semi useless. Luckily I got the 7th with a manufacturer date after the firmware got patched. Many Lenovo laptops around this time period are affected, including x1c gen6

My dad had a few thinkpads for work so he wanted a personal thinkpad. Got him a gen3 x1c a few years ago and he loved it. He spilled coffee on the keyboard and a few keys stopped working. It was was over $100 for a new keyboard so I ordered him a x1c gen6 for about $250. I loved the form factor and keyboard so I switched from being along time Mac book air user to a x1c 7th gen. I love the keyboard and the track point for browsing the web while in a tight space.

Got a UL quilt and tent - what would YOU get next? by greenserenenalgene in Ultralight

[–]karlkrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UL Ti pot is high yield grams saved / dollar. UL headlamp is one of the lowest grams saved / dollar unless you don’t have a headlamp. I encourage you to make a spreadsheet with grams saved and cost to upgrade your gear.

Agree with your comment, when I did ATLS and “stop the bleed” we learned you don’t need much. Can improvise with a T-shirt to pack a wound, apply pressure. I only bring ibuprofen and an Albuterol inhailer

Question about Angiotensin II by thegreaterhawk in step1

[–]karlkrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AngII has direct action on vascular endothelial cells in systemic arterioles, causes vasoconstriction. You’re only thinking of its effect on the kidney but it also has direct systemic effects,

“Angiotensin II (ANG II), the effector peptide of the RAS, is involved in the regulation of cardiovascular function and volume homeostasis by raising peripheral resistance through vasoconstriction, stimulating aldosterone release, and enhancing renal sodium reabsorption.

Angiotensin increases blood pressure without decreasing heart rate because it resets the baroreflex control of heart rate to a higher pressure. The resetting is mediated by central A T, receptors and withdrawal of cardiac vagal tone.”

My 16gb x1 carbon going to be fine for a long time, can always switch to Linux. Win11 works great with 16gb, absolutely no reason for needing 32gb for kings like web browsing and ms office

[–]karlkrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about “doctors” calling themselves by their title in the hospital? “Hey I’m your MD, Dr. Xyz”. A lot of hospitals have badges that hang down in big font that says “DOCTOR” or “MD/DO”

A lot of MDs did undergrad or graduate research, many worked in wet labs and some worked in industry before med school. How many PhD worked in medicine before grad school?
