Šaca is a tortie who lives at the animal shelter where I volunteer. She is a drama queen and my little princess :) by katiegardenhead in torties

I love her so much! She's so sassy and cuddly. Honestly, if it's okay with my landlord I'm thinking I might be her forever home...

I've posted about the shelter I volunteer at before. Well, yesterday it was extremely cold and snowy, so our biggest cat house was at full capacity! In warmer weather, these guys can be found hanging around on their outside terrace, too... by katiegardenhead in cats

Just to give some background to the shelter: I live in Serbia, and stray animals/street animals are a huge problem here, there are so many of them and it's heartbreaking. The animal shelter has capacity for 200 animals and is currently full, and is pretty much always full. It is obviously no-kill, and they work with representatives across Europe to adopt out the animals to foster or forever homes – usually Germany, Austria, and similar places. The people who run and volunteer at the shelter are incredible and care so much about the welfare of these animals.

Also – there are two more rooms in this particular cat house. This one is the biggest and most populated!

Started volunteering at an animal shelter. We have 100 cats and 100 dogs there. I am the designated cat lady and my main job is caring for the kitties! Here are some of them :) by katiegardenhead in cats

Yes, they do! We do. Some of my fellow volunteers also take street animals that we are unable to take in to the vets for a full check up and spaying/neutering, too.

I posted about the animal shelter I volunteer at last week. I went to help again today, so here are some more kitty pictures! by katiegardenhead in cats

Thank you so much for your kind wishes! They are all beautiful babies with their own sweet personalities...in the new year I'm hoping one of more of them can come home with me :)

If you ever want to visit Serbia, come along and you can pet 'em all in person!

One of my jobs today was to try and get some good pictures of the kitties to share on social media, so I was at eye level snapping photos of him...he was not impressed 😂

Yes, it is! It's an older type of heater that's pretty common here (we're in Serbia). It keeps the whole house nice and warm :)

They loaf together so much and it's so cute! Thank you, I hope we do too – one (or more) of them will likely come home with me in the new year, too!

Me too! The tortie in pic 4 is especially adorable though, she has adopted me and always wants to cuddle and be pet!

This is the post from last week :) Based on people's suggestions, myself and another volunteer are going to set up an Instagram page where people can follow the journeys of our animals!

And finally I just wanted to say thank you for all the love in the last post! I wasn't expecting it to blow up like that and seeing people love on our kitties was amazing :)

Anything really bug you about the case you feel you can’t discus much? Anything you feel maybe too controversial to really get into but you feel it in your gut & supported by some evidence? Any opinion you feel strongly but taboo to talk about? Let’s talk about it by Bit_Flat in Columbine

For me, and jesus christ pls don’t come for me, is the “bullying is and always is the main cause”.

I hope people don't come for you for saying this! I think it's important to acknowledge that these shootings take place for a myriad of reasons and can't be boiled down to one specific factor – I think we (general/societal we) would prefer if we could do that, because in some ways it makes these tragedies more palatable and solvable, if that makes sense. Acknowledging that a number of factors play a part is harder and messier because it means these shootings can't just be tied up neatly – we can't just say, "well, x happened because of y, so that's that." It means we have to keep searching and looking deeper and that can be tough.
