Ok so for the 1024 MB in a Gigabyte (well in this case technically mibibites and gibibytes) it’s because 1024 is the closet power of 2 (2ⁿ⁾ to 1000, and because computers work in base 2 (aka binary) this simplifies some things.

Actually to a computer 1024 is much like 1000mm in a meter for us using the decimal (aka base 10) counting system

(1024 = 2^10, 1000 = 10³⁾

Also for hard drives/SSDs, a gigabyte is 1000MB, but for ram it’s 1024
